Summer Festival Season in Lake County 2026

Summer in Lake County doesn't ease in quietly. It arrives all at once, in a rush of carnival lights, lakefront fireworks and the smell of garlic, smoked brisket and fresh-picked strawberries drifting through downtown streets. From late May through Labor Day, the calendar fills with hundreds of reasons to get outside. Families can splash, skate, shop vintage markets and gather for Pride celebrations, Juneteenth festivities and Fourth of July parades marking the nation's 250th birthday.

Whether you're planning a single afternoon or a season's worth of outings, here's a guide to everything Lake County has to offer this summer.

Summer Camp-In at Great Wolf Lodge Illinois (MAY 21-AUG.23)

The ultimate summertime celebration unfolds when Summer Camp-In takes over Great Wolf Lodge Illinois in Gurnee from Thursday, May 21, through Sunday, Aug. 23. The seasonal event packs in outdoor pool parties, arts and crafts, games and more. It all adds up to an unforgettable family adventure. There's fun in the sun all summer long.

Butterflies & Blooms at Chicago Botanic Garden (MAY 27-SEPT. 7)

Visitors can flutter into summer when Butterflies & Blooms returns to the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe from Wednesday, May 27, through Monday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The 2,800-square-foot mesh enclosure on the Regenstein Learning Campus is filled with colorful live species native to South America, Asia, Africa, North America and Illinois. Guests can peek through a window into the pupa room to observe new life emerging, and spot blue morphos, paper kites, starry crackers and Julia longwings. Moths, including the African moon moth, make appearances throughout the season.

Highwood Evening Gourmet Market (june 3-AUG.26)

A "Ravinia-like" atmosphere returns when the Highwood Evening Gourmet Market sets up at Everts Park every Wednesday from June 3 through Aug. 26, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. The North Shore staple features more than 60 vendors offering local wares alongside a diverse selection of food and beverages in a family-friendly setting. The Live Evening Concert Series runs weekly from 6 to 9 p.m., with special themed nights including Pride in the Park, Inferno Fest, Margarita Night and the fan-favorite Garlic Fest. It's a weekly summer tradition for the whole family.

ANTIOCH TASTE OF SUMMER (JUNE 4-7)

Antioch's Taste of Summer Festival, the village's largest annual event, will take place June 4-7 in downtown Antioch. The four-day festival will feature live music, food vendors, carnival rides, unique exhibitors and shopping throughout the village. The event draws residents and visitors alike for a weekend of community celebration to kick off the summer season. 

GARDEN BROS NUCLEAR CIRCUS AT THE LAKE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS (JUNE 4-7)

Garden Bros Nuclear Circus will bring its modern Big Top experience to the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake June 4-7. The show features more than 60 world-class performers across a five-ring layout with concert-style lighting and sound in a climate-controlled tent. Billed as a fast-moving show with no filler, the circus is designed for all ages. 

Highwood Kick Off to Summer Carnival (JUNE 5-7)

The Highwood Kick Off to Summer Carnival will run June 5-7 in downtown Highwood, offering rides, games and food for all ages. The festive carnival invites the community to celebrate the start of summer in a lively outdoor setting. Discounted unlimited ride wristbands will be available for families looking to make the most of the weekend.

FIRST FRIDAYS IN DOWNTOWN GRAYSLAKE (June 5 and July 3)

First Fridays returns to downtown Grayslake bring a monthly evening event to the historic district from 6-9 p.m. Held the first Friday of each month, the free event invites guests to explore local businesses staying open late with drink specials, happy hour menus, shopping promotions, discounts, raffles, giveaways, complimentary snacks and interactive pop-ups. No tickets are required to attend.

First Friday on MainStreet Libertyville (June 5, July 3 and August 7)

MainStreet Libertyville's First Friday celebration invites residents and visitors to shop, dine and support local businesses. Participating boutiques and stores will extend their evening hours, offering refreshments, exclusive promotions and a festive shopping experience. Visitors are also encouraged to make dinner reservations at one of Libertyville's award-winning restaurants during the event.

FOX LAKE FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE Farmers Market and concert series (JUNE 5-AUGUST 21)

The Village of Fox Lake is bringing back Friday Night Live for the 2026 season, a weekly summer event series held every Friday from June through August at the newly renovated Lakefront Park. The free event will feature an artisan market from 5-8 p.m., live music from 7-9 p.m. and food and beverage vendors, including local businesses and food trucks. Theme market days and partnerships with local nonprofit organizations are also planned throughout the series.

Deerfield Art Festival (JUNE 6-7)

The Deerfield Art Festival will bring works from 100 original artists to downtown Deerfield on June 6-7. Admission and parking are free, and the weekend event will include live music, a live painting class, a Kids Art Zone, food and beer and face painting. Many of Deerfield's restaurants, cafes and retail stores will also be open throughout the weekend.

Illinois Vintage Fest at Lake County Fairgrounds (JUNE 6-7)

Illinois Vintage Fest returns to the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake on June 6-7, with more than 100 vendors selling vintage clothing, home goods, collectibles, art and more. The two-day summer kickoff event offers a wide variety of finds for shoppers and collectors. 

RAVINIA FESTIVAL 2026 SEASON (VARIOUS DATES)

Boasting over 90 concerts and 50 artist debuts, the upcoming season marks a historic milestone with the unveiling of the newly renovated Hunter Pavilion. The eclectic summer lineup spans everything from hip-hop royalty and punk icons to West Coast rap legends and New Orleans jazz masters. Some marquee upcoming performers include:

BITTER JESTER FESTER MUSIC FESTIVAL IN HIGHLAND PARK (JUNE 5-6,12-13, 27)

The Bitter Jester Music Festival returns to Downtown Highland Park for its 20th season, with free concerts beginning June 5. The family-friendly competition series, which features emerging musicians from across the Midwest competing before live audiences and industry judges, will hold preliminary concerts June 5, 6, 12 and 13, with the top performers advancing to a Grand Finale on June 27. Wine, craft beer and food will be available at all concerts.

BROTHERS' FIELD 2026 SEASON (VARIOUS DATES)

Brothers’ Field, a 30,000-square-foot outdoor entertainment venue located in Long Grove’s historic downtown district, was founded on the principle of bringing the community together. Featuring an open green space features vintage-style barns, fire pits, outdoor movie screens and a Tiki bar. FISHING DERBYS IN LAKE COUNTY (VARIOUS DAYS)

13th Annual Mundelein Craft Beer Festival (JUNE 6)

The 13th Annual Mundelein Craft Beer Festival returns to Courtland Commons on Saturday, June 6, from 1-5 p.m., featuring dozens of craft breweries from across Chicagoland. Guests can sample unique brews, enjoy live music, and purchase food from local vendors in an outdoor setting with games and covered seating. Proceeds support local businesses and community programs.

Thrive Barket and Makers Market in Antioch (JUNE 6)

The Thrive Barket and Makers Market will be held on Saturday, June 6, outside Thrive Pet Supply in Antioch, offering shopping, games and pet-friendly activities for dogs and their owners. The Barket will feature local artisans, dog products and treats, the Mutt Strut competition with prizes and meet-and-greet opportunities with adoptable dogs from For Good Rescue. Coffee will also be available throughout the market.

Cardboard Regatta in Waukegan (JUNE 6)

The Waukegan Park District will host its Cardboard Regatta at the Field House Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Center. Open to ages 6-17, participants race homemade cardboard boats across the lap pool with prizes awarded for speed and design. 

Live at the Lake in Lake Zurich (JUNE 6-AUG.8)

Memorable nights by the water return when Live at the Lake brings its summer series to the Paulus Park Band Shell in Lake Zurich, opening Saturday, June 6, and closing Saturday, Aug. 8. The June 6 kickoff features Band on the Run at 5 p.m. and Modern Day Romeos at 7:30 p.m., capped by a fireworks finale at 9:15 p.m., weather permitting. The Aug. 8 finale stacks the bill with Heart to Heartbreakers at 5 p.m., Simply Billy at 7 p.m. and Simply Elton at 8:30 p.m. Both nights pair live entertainment with family-friendly activities under the stars.

Buffalo Grove's 8th Annual Family Friendly Pride Parade (JUNE 7)

Buffalo Grove's 8th Annual Family Friendly Pride Parade will step off at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 7. The parade will feature fully clothed participants sharing a positive and inclusive message, including dancers, bands, flag twirlers, drag performers, and representatives from local businesses, religious organizations and schools. 

Concerts in the Plaza at Independence Grove (JUNE 9-AUG. 2)

Live music fills the lakefront when Concerts in the Plaza returns to Independence Grove Forest Preserve for its outdoor summer series, running Tuesdays at 7 p.m. through Tuesday, Aug. 4. The all-ages performances take place at Millennia Plaza, the preserve's outdoor amphitheater overlooking a 129-acre lake, with a lineup spanning tribute acts to the Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, the Beatles and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and to arrive early, though pop-up canopies and umbrellas are not permitted. A $10 vehicle entrance fee applies.

Antioch's It's Thursday Concert Series at William E. Brook Entertainment Center (JUNE 11-AUG.27)

Live music fills the summer air when Antioch's "It's Thursday" concert series returns to the William E. Brook Entertainment Center at the Antioch Bandshell, running Thursdays at 7 p.m. from June 11 through Aug. 27. The series spans tribute acts and local favorites, kicking off with Everclear on June 11 — a special 6 p.m. start with doors at 5 p.m. — and rolling through tributes to the Eagles, Billy Joel and Elton John, Taylor Swift, Chicago and more. An Aug. 6 Blooze Brothers show doubles as a car show, adding to the community atmosphere. There's a genre for every music lover all season long.

GRAYSLAKE SUMMER CLUSTER DOG SHOWS (JUNE 12-14)

Tails will wag and ribbons will fly when the Skokie Valley Kennel Club and the Great Lakes All Terrier Association host an AKC All-Breed and Specialty Show Weekend at the Lake County Fairgrounds from Friday, June 12, through Sunday, June 14. Dog lovers can meet the breeds, take a guided show tour and browse vendors offering breed-specific gifts and jewelry. A health and wellness clinic and on-site food round out the festivities, which run daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is $10 per day at the gate.

Vernon Hills Annual Craft Beer Tasting (JUNE 13)

Craft beer lovers will want to mark their calendars for the Vernon Hills Park District's Annual Craft Beer Tasting on June 13, where Chicago-area breweries will gather to pour their finest microbrews. The 21-and-older event includes a complimentary tasting glass with each ticket, along with food truck bites and music from a DJ. Guests can also try their hand at line dancing with instructor Kickin' It With Carol, adding a lively twist to the afternoon. 

RUNNING IN LAKE COUNTY (VARIOUS DAYS)

Lake County offers plenty of opportunities for runners of all levels, from community 5Ks and themed festival races to scenic trails winding through its many forest preserves and lakefront parks. Whether you're training for a personal best or just looking for a relaxed weekend jog, there's a route to match your pace.

Reclaimed Artisans Inc. Outdoor Market in Libertyville (JUNE 13)

More than 50 local dealers will descend on Reclaimed Artisans Inc. in Libertyville for an outdoor vintage market June 13, transforming the parking lot into a sprawling showcase of unique goods. Shoppers can browse vendor offerings throughout the day while food, drinks and live music round out the experience. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with live music scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. The event offers a one-stop destination for vintage enthusiasts and community members looking for a weekend outing.

Rum Fest in Fox Lake (JUNE 13)

Downtown Fox Lake will take on a Caribbean flair June 13 as Rum Fest brings signature rum drinks, food trucks, vendors and live music to the heart of the village. The street festival, hosted in partnership with the Village of Fox Lake, features local bars showcasing specialty rum cocktails, with tickets priced at $30 and including three sample coupons. Space is limited and advance ticket purchase is encouraged, as proceeds will help fund the drone show for Venetian Night 2026. The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. and promises a festive kickoff to the summer season.

Roll with Hawthorn Pride in Vernon Hills (JUNE 13)

Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills will roll out the rainbow carpet June 13 for Roll With Hawthorn Pride, an indoor celebration centered around a high-energy roller rink near the mall's Level 1 center park. Skaters can glide to Pride anthems and themed skate sessions while live performances and music takeovers keep the energy high throughout the afternoon. Off the rink, attendees can connect with community resources, discover queer-owned vendors and local organizations, and catch pop-up performances across the mall. The free event runs from 2-5 p.m. and welcomes all who want to show up, skate and celebrate together.

6th Annual Grayslake Pride Parade (JUNE 14)

Love and inclusion take center stage at the sixth annual Grayslake Pride Parade, hosted by the Better Together Project in historic downtown Grayslake. The family-friendly procession kicks off at Hawley Street and Slusser Street, winds along Center Street and Seymour Avenue, and circles back to Slusser. Viewing spots line the entire route, with music from a local DJ keeping spirits high. Come cheer on the participants and celebrate the community.

Pride in the Park at Everts Park in Highwood (JUNE 17)

The North Shore lights up with color when Pride in the Park returns to Highwood's Everts Park. Held as a special theme night during the Evening Gourmet Market, the free, family-friendly celebration of love and community packs the evening with food, art, live music from DJ Versage and good people. Guests can add to a collaborative community mural, paint Pride rocks, make friendship bracelets and test their skills at giant yard games like Connect 4, Jenga and Twister. A portion of proceeds benefits Highwood Pride and its mission to build a more inclusive, affirming North Shore.

Summer in the Shire Concert Series: One Foot in the Groove (JUNE 18)

Summer evenings hit a high note when the Summer in the Shire Concert Series welcomes One Foot in the Groove on Thursday, June 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. The free outdoor performance takes place at the Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire. Pack a chair or blanket and settle in for a night of live music under the open sky. It's a relaxed way to kick off the season with friends, family and neighbors.

The CFC Bougie Burger Battle at Buffalo Creek Brewing in Long Grove (JUNE 18)

Burger lovers can sink their teeth into the action when the third Culinary Fight Club competition of 2026, the Bougie Burger Battle, sizzles into Buffalo Creek Brewing in Long Grove on Thursday, June 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. Back by popular demand, the American classic-themed showdown challenges 10 to 20 contestants to craft a burger worthy of a $50 price tag using limited ingredients and limited time. Judges will crown the 2026 Bougie Burger Champion while attendees taste the competing burgers and vote for the Taster's Choice winner, with two competitors earning a spot in the 2027 championship at Culinary Fight Fest. 

Libertyville Days Festival and Parade (JUNE 18-21)

Community spirit shines bright when the annual Libertyville Days Festival, "Stars, Stripes, and Libertyville Nights," fills downtown Libertyville from Thursday, June 18, through Sunday, June 21. The four-day celebration packs in carnival rides and games, live music, food from Church Street Eats, a beer garden, an arts and crafts fair and a kids' party. A parade steps off Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Metra train station, heading south on Milwaukee Avenue to Highland Middle School. There's something for all ages across the weekend.

Vernon Hills Memorial Arbortheater Concert Series (jUNE 18-AUG.13)

Music lovers can grab a blanket and their dancing shoes when the Vernon Hills Memorial Arbortheater Concert Series returns for select Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., June 18 through Aug. 13. The free, family-friendly outdoor series spans genres, opening with the do-it-all band Soda on June 18 and continuing through high-energy acts like Rosie & The Rivets, the Abby Kay Band and the local talents of the Libertyville School of Rock. Later dates feature the six-piece horn section Brass from the Past and Beyond the Blonde, which leans into fierce female icons of pop and rock. Concertgoers are welcome to bring a picnic basket and settle in under the stars.

Zion Park District - Concert in the Park (JUNE 18-Aug. 6)

Summer evenings hit a high note when the Zion Park District Concert in the Park series fills the Zion Park District Bandshell with live music Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., running June 18 through Aug. 6. The free series spans a genre-hopping lineup, opening with Motor City's Motown Revue on June 18 and rolling through tribute acts to Queen and Lady Gaga, classic R&B, 1980s and '90s pop, and a Taylor Swift Eras Tour celebration to close the season on Aug. 6. A special Independence Day celebration on July 4 features Top 40 country group Bella Cain, food vendors and a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. From Motown to mariachi, there's a sound for every music lover all summer long.

Summer Kick-Off Dance in Grayslake (JUne 19)

Summer officially gets the green light when the community gathers at Jones Island Beach for the Summer Kick-Off Dance on Friday, June 19, from noon to 2 p.m. The lakeside afternoon serves up live music from a DJ, volleyball, games, contests and more. Best of all, the event is free and open to the public with no registration required. Just show up ready to dance and welcome the season in style

Taste of Highland Park at Port Clinton Square (JUNE 19-20)

The North Shore's culinary scene takes the spotlight when the Taste of Highland Park returns to Port Clinton Square on Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20. More than a dozen local vendors will line Central Avenue, serving up diverse flavors alongside live music, with Friday hours from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m. New this year are air-conditioned dining areas and a photography exhibit featuring winners of the "Capture the Heart of Highland Park" contest. Saturday adds children's programming from 3 to 5 p.m. and a 20th-anniversary showcase from the Bitter Jester Music Festival.

Zion Nostalgia Days (JUNE 19-20)

Zion rolls back the clock when Nostalgia Days returns for its annual community celebration. Downtown streets will fill with a large car show featuring classic, custom and vintage vehicles displayed along the roadways. The festivities also include live entertainment, food vendors, local dining, unique vendors and awards. With activities designed for the entire family, there's something to enjoy for every generation.

12 Annual Grayslake Craft Beer Festival (JUNE 20)

Beer lovers can raise a glass when the 12th annual Grayslake Craft Beer Festival pours into downtown Grayslake on Saturday, June 20, from 1 to 5 p.m. The festival features a vast selection of craft beers, classic ales, lagers, stouts and more in a diverse range of flavors and styles. Many Lake County Libation Trail partners will be on hand, ensuring there's something for every palate. It's an afternoon guaranteed to tantalize the taste buds and leave attendees craving more.

ArtWauk in Waukegan (JUNE 20, JULY 18 AND AUG.15)

Downtown Waukegan turns into a canvas when ArtWauk returns for its monthly celebration of the arts. The event spotlights rotating art exhibits, musicians and featured performances that vary from month to month, with warmer-weather editions extending to Waukegan Harbor. Visitors can explore the Waukegan Arts Council and the Belvidere Mall while taking in the creative energy. Come for the art, grab dinner and stay for a vibrant evening on the lakefront.

Lake County PrideFest 2026 at Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center (JUNE 20)

One of the most highly anticipated events of the summer returns when Lake County PrideFest draws thousands to the Cultural & Civic Center of Round Lake Beach. The free, family-friendly outdoor festival will feature food trucks, craft and artisan vendors, a resource fair, games and entertainment for children, drag shows, live music and more. A $10 donation at the door benefits the LGBTQ+ Center Lake County and is greatly appreciated. Attendees are invited to celebrate LGBTQ+ life and culture and show their support for the community.

Black Outside: Juneteenth Lake County Parade & Festival in Waukegan (JUNE 20)

The African American Museum at the England Manor presents Black Outside, the Juneteenth Lake County Parade and Festival. The parade kicks off from Waukegan High School's Washington Campus and gives way to a festival on Genesee Street packed with live music, DJs, a kids zone, food trucks, vendors and raffles. Standout moments include the Turn Up or Tap Out Battle of the Bands and the Mr. & Miss Juneteenth pageant. It's a vibrant celebration of community, culture and the spirit of Juneteenth.

Twisted Sisters Events Presents Artisan Fair at Volo Museum (JUNE 20)

Treasure hunters can browse to their heart's content when Twisted Sisters Events presents an Artisan Fair at the Volo Museum on Saturday, June 20. More than 40 vendors will showcase unique goods ranging from handmade crafts and jewelry to collectibles and homemade treats. The outdoor fair sets up just outside the museum's main entrance and is completely free to explore. Afterward, visitors can extend the day with museum attractions like the Titanic Museum and Jurassic Gardens with regular admission.

Father's Day Coffee and Canoes in Highland Park (JUNE 21)

There may be no better way to honor dad than by handing him a paddle and a cup of coffee on the quiet waters of the Skokie Lagoons. From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, June 21, the Heller Nature Center invites families to enjoy a light breakfast before pushing off to explore the lagoon, with canoes, paddles and life jackets all provided. The outdoor program welcomes ages 6 and up at $26 per person, and every participant, child or adult, must pre-register. Dress for the weather, and let the morning drift by on the water.

Summer Concert Series at Floral Park in Deerfield (June 21-Sept. 3)

Friends and neighbors can gather for tunes when the annual Summer Concert Series returns to Floral Park in Deerfield, held Sundays from 5 to 6:30 p.m., June 21 through Sept. 3. The lineup spans a wide mix of acts, opening with Electric Brew and rolling through performers like The Wanderers, Wildwood Country and a closing set from Roger That. Michael's Food Truck will be on-site at all events. It's a relaxed weekly tradition to round out the summer evenings.

Summer Sunday Smoker Event at Bluegrass in Highland Park (JUNE 22)

Bluegrass Restaurant in Highland Park fires up the season with its first-ever Summer Sunday Smoker. The afternoon features smoked specialties, craft beer and curated wines, with pairings from Hopewell Brewing Company and Gundlach Bundschu Winery plus live smoker demonstrations. Guests can dig into signature dishes including corn bisque, special mac and cheese, smoked chicken thighs, Snake River black wagyu brisket and baby back ribs, plus surprise selections from Chef Jorge. Admission is $75 per person, plus tax and gratuity, and reservations are required.

Inferno Fest at Everts Park in Highwood (JUNE 24)

Highwood's summer season heats up when Inferno Fest returns to Everts Park. The high-energy event challenges fearless food enthusiasts with a curated selection of spicy dishes and beverages designed to test even the toughest taste buds. Local vendors will serve up fire-themed culinary creations, adding a bold twist to the weekly market atmosphere. Whether you crave extreme heat or just want to soak up the "fired up" vibe, it's one of the most adventurous highlights of the Highwood summer calendar.

Summer Concerts at Deer Park Town Center (june 24-AUG.26)

Live music fills the evening air when Summer Concerts return to Town Center Park at Deer Park Town Center on the fourth Wednesday of the month from June 24 through Aug. 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Each concert features a different live band and genre, from the high-energy Shout Out Band in June to the classic rock and soul of Brass from the Past in July and a Frankie Valli tribute from The Four C Notes in August. Food vendors will be available, and guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket. It's a relaxed way to bring the community together through music.

Wizards Weekend Day in Antioch (JUNE 27)

Magical beings and Muggles alike can grab their brooms and head to Antioch's Wizards Weekend Day. The enchanted downtown transforms into Wizard Town with spells, magical classes for all ages, photo ops, contests, magical creatures and a new Diagon Alley tucked inside the United Methodist Church. A Magical Band is required for all activities and is available for $15 per person in advance or $20 at the event, with cash only on-site. Purchase four bands and get one free.

Celebrate Fox Lake - America 250 at Lakefront Park (JUNE 27)

Visitors can travel back to 1574 when the Bristol Renaissance Faire opens for the season in Bristol, Wis., running weekends from Saturday, July 11, through Monday, Sept. 7. For nine glorious weekends, plus Labor Day Monday, the 30-acre site recreates an Elizabethan village festival complete with games, rides, arts, crafts, food, music and a spectacular cast of characters. A hometown favorite returns when Vernon Hills Days takes over Century Park for four days, Thursday through Sunday, July 16 to 19. Native American heritage takes center stage when the Potawatomi Trails Pow-wow returns to Shiloh Park in Zion from Friday through Sunday, Aug. 21 to 23. Fox Lake's Venetian Night (AUG.29)

Summer goes out with a splash when Fox Lake's Venetian Night takes over Lakefront Park and Beach on Saturday, Aug. 29, starting at 2 p.m. The end-of-summer party showcases Fox Lake's access to the Chain O' Lakes with a boat show, wine and beer tasting, a kids area, vendors, food trucks, a beer tent and live music. The day culminates with one of the largest drone light shows in Illinois at 9:30 p.m., visible from both the park and boats anchored in Nippersink Lake. Honey Harvest Festival in Highland Park (AUG.29)

Things get buzz-worthy when Highland Park celebrates its Honey Harvest Festival on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to noon. Guests can get an up-close look at working bees, sample local honeys, meet a real beekeeper and learn how honey is made. Hands-on activities include adopting a hive, designing a pollinator hotel and creating beeswax crafts to take home. A Kids Art Zone offers art projects, face painting, giant bubbles and painting classes, while cold beer, specialty coffee, tasty treats and live music provide a welcome break. Nashwood in Highwood (Sept. 4-6)

Starting with Friday's happy hour and continuing through Sunday night, downtown restaurants and bars will host more than 100 free live performances in a city-wide festival atmosphere. The lineup spans country, southern blues and both classic and contemporary rock. It's a three-day invitation to explore Highwood's vibrant dining and nightlife scene with non-stop entertainment.

Irish Days in Historic Downtown Long Grove (SEPT. 5-7)

A St. Patrick's Day-style celebration arrives early when Irish Days returns to historic downtown Long Grove from Saturday through Monday, Sept. 5 to 7. The three-day, family-friendly festival features bagpipers, folk bands and Irish dancers alongside Irish food, beer and a variety of entertaining contests, with some of Chicago's top Irish musicians and dance troupes. A favorite tradition is the Irish Dog Competition, where costumed dogs parade for votes to be crowned Irish doggie royalty. Another crowd-pleaser is the Best Men's Legs in a Kilt contest, where participants take the stage in full attire.

Throughout the year, Lake County revs up with a variety of car shows, showcasing an impressive array of classic, vintage, and custom vehicles. Whether you're a fan of gleaming antiques or unique, modified rides, these events offer something to delight every automotive enthusiast.
