Celebrating Cicadas Exhibit at the Dunn Museum

Coming to your forest preserves and yards: periodical cicadas (Magicicada spp.)! In May 2024, 17-year cicadas will emerge from the ground by the millions to sing, mate and overwhelm their predators with sheer numbers. Periodical cicadas have a fascinating and mysterious life cycle—no one is certain why these cicadas emerge every 17 years. Discover the amazing life, sounds and benefits of this intriguing insect.
