New Attraction Planned for Six Flags Great America in 2024

By: Stephanie Wylie 02/09/2024

Prepare to elevate your thrill-seeking adventures to new heights as Six Flags Great America unveils its latest heart-pounding attraction: Sky Striker. Scheduled to debut in spring 2024, Sky Striker promises to be the Midwest's tallest pendulum thrill ride, towering an impressive 17 stories tall.

Thrill-seekers will be in for a wild ride as they board Sky Striker's swinging disk and soar to breathtaking heights, reaching speeds of up to 75 miles per hour. As the pendulum glides back and forth, riders will experience an exhilarating feeling of weightlessness, suspended a staggering 172 feet in the air. The Sky Striker will be replacing Mardi Gras Hangover, which opened to the public in 2018.

"We're thrilled to introduce Sky Striker, the latest addition to our record-breaking lineup of roller coasters and thrill attractions," remarked Six Flags Great America Park President, John Krajnak in Six Flags Great America's press release. "This towering pendulum ride will offer guests an unforgettable experience, delivering adrenaline-pumping thrills and stunning views of the park's skyline."

Located in the County Fair section of the park, Sky Striker promises an unforgettable adventure for thrill-seekers of all ages. With its towering presence and heart-pounding speeds, this giant pendulum ride is set to become a must-visit destination for adrenaline junkies and amusement park enthusiasts alike.

Known for their record-breaking rides, Six Flags Great America's Sky Striker will be a welcome addition to rides like Maxx Force, which broke three records as the tallest and fastest inversion coaster and fastest acceleration in North America.  The Gurnee amusement park's sister park, Hurricane Harbor Chicago, also features world-class water coaster, Tsunami Surge, towering an incredible 86 feet with a top speed of 28 mph over 950 feet. And a three time Guiness Book World Record holder, Goliath, fastest wooden coaster at 72 mph, tallest drop for a wooden coaster at 180 feet and steepest drop for a wooden coaster at a near-vertical 85 degrees.
