The day finally came where Guinness Book of World Records arrived to measure and calculate the speed, height and incline of the coaster (beast, massive, mammoth, enormous, etc.) Goliath at Great America.
The height of the ride was confirmed as the world’s tallest, fastest and steepest wooden roller coaster at 54.86 meters or 180 feet. The incline of the steep drop is actually an 85.13 degree angle. The speed of the train when loaded by officials the train clocked in at a speedy 71.89 mph (or 115.7 kmph)
Six Flags Great America is always trying to push the envelope. They obtain other wooden coasters like the American Eagle and the Viper.
The American Eagle was once named the world’s tallest and fastest when it opened in May of 1981. The fan favorite Eagle’s tallest point is 127 feet and runs at about 66 mph.
So not only does the park have birthday’s to celebrate (besides the 40th season, it is the 10th year of Hurricane Harbor and the 25th year of fright fest), but another record-breaking ride!
Hurricane Harbor will open their doors this month as we start to see warmer weather on May 23.
