Black Lung Brewing Co. proudly wears its blue-collar roots, from its garage-brew beginnings in Grayslake. Founded by brewmaster Josh Grubbs, the family-driven brewery keeps tradition front and center with rotating taps, community events and a menu built for gathering. One standout pour is Noon Porter, an English-style porter that opens with soft chocolate notes before finishing with a gentle roast. Light-bodied and easy drinking, it reflects Black Lung’s approach to brewing — approachable, well-crafted and grounded in the passion that started it all.

Four generations of Glunz’s have operated a business in libations. The Glunz family landed in the states in 1879 and opened a wine, beer and spirit store on Wells and Division Streets in Chicago's Old Town in 1888. In 1992, the third-generation descendants began creating small-batch fortified wines, and the rest is history. The family has a women-owned winery and tasting room in Grayslake and wine country on 20 acres of land in Paso Robles, California, where they grow much of the drinkables. Suzzie Glunz is the proprietor at this Lake County Libation Trail establishment. Descendants from the Glunz family also have run that same shop in Chicago for the last 130 years. The Grayslake/Paso Robles family winery has earned many awards for its offerings. During the holiday season, Vin Glögg must be at your family celebrations. This delightful holiday blend combines half dry red wine and half port, infused with a symphony of spices including cinnamon, cardamom, and orange peel.

Tony’s Butcher Shop in Grayslake is an old-fashioned, family-values butcher counter and that makes it a good place to start your holiday dinner. Instead of the pre-packaged cuts you’d find at a chain grocery store, you get a real butcher who can talk you through the right roast for your guest count and how to cook it. The shop is known for its prime rib, pork crown roasts, leg of lamb and beef roasts, which are the classic centerpieces for a holiday table, and the same counter also carries steaks, chops and fresh-ground hamburger for the rest of the week. It also stocks wine, so you can pick a bottle to go with the roast in the same trip. The owner has said he takes pride in making a nice presentation for customers’ meals, and a shop that cares about that is the kind you want when the main course has to be right. Because holiday roasts are the most popular items this time of year, order a few days ahead so your cut is trimmed and ready when you stop in.
