Hailed by The New York Times as “perhaps the fastest-rising conductor of his generation,” Klaus Mäkelä is poised to lead the CSO into a new era of bold music-making and artistic excellence. This summer, the Zell Music Director Designate makes his Ravinia debut alongside rising talent Daniel Lozakovich, traversing the polar expedition of Sibelius’s Violin Concerto.
Their vibrant collaboration first captivated Chicago audiences in 2022, as the pair made their joint CSO debuts to widespread acclaim. Heralded by WTTW as “the stellar young talent that will keep classical music thriving,” they are leading the next generation of classical music. Performing with major orchestras across the globe, Lozakovich has been praised for his “stunning interpretative maturity” and “exquisite musicality” (OperaWorld). He is perfectly paired with Mäkelä, a "rivetingly energetic presence” (New York Times) who “revel[s] in freshly imagining each sound” (The Times).
Filling out the program, Mäkelä and the CSO scale the mountainous tone-tale of Strauss’s Alpine Symphony. The result is a program of sweeping scale and vivid imagination, carrying audiences to a breathtaking musical summit.
