Kid's Guide to Six Flags Great America
Coasters, cakes and of course that wascally wabbit at Great America Next Weekend...
Standing at the base of the 100-foot Columbia Carousel, it is easy to feel small. But at Six Flags Great America, being small is actually a superpower.
This 303-acre playground is more than just a home for giant steel monsters. While the park is famous for its 16 world-class roller coasters, it is secretly a wonderland built just for younger explorers. From the cartoon forests of Yukon Territory to the colorful streets of Kidzopolis, the park offers more than a dozen gentle rides and mini-coasters designed for those who aren’t quite ready for the 202-foot drop of Raging Bull.
Where to Start Your Journey
The adventure begins the moment you pass through the front gates into Carousel Plaza. Here, you can hop on a horse on the second-tallest carousel in the world or take a slow ride up the Sky Trek Tower to see the Chicago skyline from 330 feet in the air.
If you are looking for a world made just for you, head over to these three main areas:- Kidzopolis: This is the ultimate "yes" zone. You can blast into the sky on the Bouncer or take a road trip in the Krazy Kars.
- Camp Cartoon: Tucked inside the Yukon Territory, this area is home to Sprocket Rockets and the historic Little Dipper, a wooden coaster that has been giving kids their first thrills since 1950.
- Hometown Park: A classic section featuring the Lady Bugs and Red Baron planes, perfect for the park's youngest guests.
Pro-Tips for a Great Day
Before you grab your cape and head to DC Universe, keep these insider tips in mind:
- Know Your Number: Most "big kid" rides for younger visitors require you to be between 36 and 42 inches tall to ride with a parent. If you’re under 48 inches, your ticket even costs less!
- Use the Tech: Ask your parents to download the Six Flags App. It shows you exactly where to find Bugs Bunny for a high-five and tells you how long the lines are for the Chubasco teacups.
- Cool Down: Your ticket includes entry to Hurricane Harbor Chicago, a massive water park with plenty of splash zones and shallow pools for cooling off on a hot Illinois summer day.
Whether you are racing on the American Eagle or spinning on the Big Easy Balloons, Great America proves that you don't have to be the tallest person in the park to have the biggest day ever.
The Details
Admissions for kids vary based on height. Because kids 48 inches and under can’t ride every ride, their entry fee is cheaper. (See price details here)
While there are plenty of rides that don't have height restrictions, Great America’s more exciting rides often come with a height minimum to help keep kids safe. Here are just a few popular rides and the height restrictions to bear in mind while planning your day at the park!
