Historic downtown Long Grove will host its annual Irish Days festival from Sept. 5-7. The three-day, family-friendly celebration of Irish pastime and culture will feature bagpipers, folk bands and Irish dancers, along with Irish food, beer and a variety of entertaining contests. Irish Days, a one-of-a-kind St. Patrick’s Day-style experience, takes place in the heart of town and features some of Chicago’s top Irish musicians, dance troupes and entertainment. A favorite tradition is the Irish Dog Competition, where costumed dogs parade for votes to be named Irish doggie king, queen, prince or princess. The contest is open to any dog whose owner registers the day of at the competition area near the ticket booth. Another crowd favorite is the Best Men’s Legs in a Kilt contest, where participants take the stage in full attire. Contestants can wear their own kilt or borrow one from organizers at no charge and register at the event.
