By: Stephanie Wylie 06/18/2026

Before the first firework splits the summer sky, Lake County communities are already mapping out weeks of parades, festivals and backyard-ready celebrations stretching from late June into early July. Cities and villages across the county are rolling out Independence Day lineups that layer live music and local food vendors alongside the expected bursts of red, white and blue.

AMERICA'S 250 FITNESS CHALLENGE AT SACHS RECREATION CENTER (JUNE 1-30)

This summer, Deerfield is celebrating America's 250th birthday one rep at a time. Sachs Recreation Center's month-long Move to 250 challenge runs June 1–30, inviting participants to log 250 total units of movement through swimming, running, biking, rowing, strength training or group fitness classes. Registration was required by May 31, and all participants will receive a special gift for completing the challenge ahead of July's national celebrations.

ANTIOCH JULY 4TH PARADE AND PARTY IN THE PARK (JULY 4)

When the nation turns 250, Antioch plans to celebrate in style and everyone's invited. The party kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with a parade beginning at Antioch Community High School and winding along Route 83 to Poplar Ave. As the afternoon heats up, the festivities move to William E. Brook Entertainment Center at 4 p.m. for the Party in the Park, featuring a DJ, live music from Tennessee Whiskey and a fireworks show.

The Founding Mother (June 23)

Before the Founding Fathers signed the documents, the Founding Mothers were already doing the work. On June 23, the Lake Forest Public Library hosts a Zoom presentation by Laura Keyes of Historic Voices, exploring the women whose courage and influence helped shape the early United States from those who sustained the years-long Revolutionary War effort to those who seized a single, defining moment of heroism. Their stories, often overlooked, echo across centuries of American history.

CELEBRATE FOX LAKE: AMERICA 250 AT LAKEFRONT PARK (JUNE 27)

Fox Lake is getting the Fourth of July party started early. Lakefront Park transforms into a full-day celebration featuring a 10 a.m. parade, a classic car show with awards at 1 p.m. and food and drinks provided by Grant Community Baseball & Softball and the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Department. The day closes with a fireworks celebration running from 3 to 10 p.m.

TASTE OF GRAYSLAKE (JUNE 28)

Bring a blanket and an appetite, the Grayslake Park District's annual Taste of Grayslake returns June 27 with food vendors, carnival rides and live music at Central Park. Brass on Fire takes the stage from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by Modern Day Romeos from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., setting the tone for an evening designed for the whole family. As dusk falls, a fireworks display caps off the night. Parking is available at Grayslake Middle School and Grayslake Central High School

63RD ANNUAL DEERFIELD FAMILY DAYS (JULY 3-4)

Few towns pack a Fourth of July weekend quite like Deerfield. The 63rd Annual Family Days spans two days at Jewett and Shepard Parks, loading up the calendar with a 5K, an arts and crafts fair, carnival games, amusement rides, inflatables, a dog show, a parade, a bike parade and a pie eating contest — all capped by a fireworks display. Live music from Spicy City Music, Blooze Brothers and Totally Taylor keeps the energy going throughout the festivities.

AMERICAN INDPENDENCE PARADE IN WAUKEGAN (JUNE 28)

Waukegan is stepping out in a big way to mark 250 years of American independence. The Waukegan Park District's 2026 American Independence Parade steps off at noon June 28, traveling north along Sheridan Road from Franklin Street to Jack Benny Drive under the theme "Waukegan Celebrates 250 Years of America." This year's Grand Marshal is Bonnie Brook Golf Course, a nod to the community institutions that have helped define the city over the years.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA IN VERNON HILLS (JUNE 29)

America's 250th birthday is even more fun when you're 2 years old. The Vernon Hills Park District invites parents and little learners ages 2 to 4 to Sullivan Community Center on June 29 for Happy Birthday USA, a 60-minute interactive class exploring red, white and blue through music, stories and activities. The program is designed to be a shared experience — one part sing-along, one part civics lesson, all parts fun.

rISKING IT ALL: THE SIGNERS OF THE DECLARATION OF INDPENDENCE (JUNE 29)

Signing the Declaration of Independence was not a patriotic gesture in 1776 — it was an act of treason. On June 29, historian Joyce Haworth brings that high-stakes story to life in person at the Lake Forest Public Library, guiding attendees through the lives of all 56 signers, from household names to obscure figures such as William Whipple and Button Gwinnett. The program explores not only who these men were, but what they stood to lose — and, in many cases, what they ultimately did lose.

Mundelein Community Days (July 2-5)

For four days each summer, Mundelein becomes the place to be in Lake County. Community Days returns July 2–5 at Courtland Commons with a full slate of carnival rides, fireworks, a parade, live music, food, games, contests, demonstrations and kids activities that draws thousands of residents and visitors each year. The festival has built a reputation as one of the best community celebrations in the region — and 2026's edition, timed to America's 250th anniversary, promises to raise the bar.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL: USA WEEKEND AT BROTHERS' FIELD (july 3-5)

Long Grove's Brothers' Field is turning the Fourth of July into a full weekend affair. As the sun sets, a fireworks display lights up the night sky over the park to close out the festivities.

Independence Fest in Highland Park (jULY 3)

Highland Park kicks off its Fourth of July weekend on the evening of July 3 with Independence Fest, a relaxed, festive gathering at The Preserve designed for families and neighbors to enjoy together. This year's event is aligned with the national America250 commemoration, weaving local community pride into the broader celebration of 250 years of independence. ABBA tribute band Dancing Queen performs live before a DJ set timed to the city's fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., with food trucks on-site for dinner.

America 250 Celebration Dinner at Elawa Farm (JULY 3)

For those who prefer their Fourth of July celebrations with a bit more refinement, Elawa Farm is offering something special. On July 3, the farm's gardens become the setting for an elevated Americana dinner hosted by Elawa Farm and the City of Lake Forest, featuring live outdoor cooking by Chef Lee Kuebler and a multi-course meal honoring the local farmers who sustain the community. The evening begins with a cocktail reception — alongside the farm's patriotic goats — before guests move to dinner amid the summer grounds.

Red, White and Boom! 4th of July Celebration in Lincolnshire (jULY 3-4)

Lincolnshire is going all out for America's 250th with a two-day celebration that leaves very little off the table.
