Rebecca Makkai, author of the New York Times bestselling "I Have Some Questions for You" and the award-winning novel "The Great Believers," a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award, will appear for a reading and conversation. Makkai grew up in Lake County. The event, presented in partnership with the Grayslake Area Public Library, will feature a discussion between Makkai and four College of Lake County student interviewers on stage.
The conversation will center on "The Great Believers," which follows two characters searching for goodness amid disaster. The novel is set against 1980s Chicago's flourishing arts scene, a character's search for her daughter in the present day and the lingering effects of the AIDS epidemic.
A reading and book signing will follow in the James Lumber Center lobby, alongside tables from the CLC English Department, the CLC Gender and Sexualities Department, LancerZone Bookstore and other community organizations. Attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of "The Great Believers" to the literary event.
