Hawthorn and the Village of Vernon Hills will kick off the holiday season with the annual Tree Lighting celebration at Hawthorn Row on Nov. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The family-friendly evening will feature Santa's arrival aboard a Vernon Hills Fire Department fire truck, meet-and-greets with winter princesses, photos with Santa, a vendor market, hot cocoa, a giant gingerbread inflatable slide, an ice rink and a sleigh selfie station.

The tree lighting, photos with Santa and the winter princess meet-and-greet begin at 5 p.m., when the village's holiday tree will be officially lit as the Vernon Hills community gathers to celebrate the season.

The event is free and open to everyone, and no registration is required. Families are encouraged to bundle up and head to Hawthorn Row for a festive night out.
