The 17th Annual Kids Fishing Derby will take place from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Cook Park, in partnership with Moose Lodge Wauconda 1969.

Kids ages 5 to 15 can bring an adult to join the free Fishing Derby, where participants will enjoy prizes, lunch and fishing. Children must be accompanied by an adult and must bring their own fishing gear and life vest. All participants will receive a container of worms and go on boats on Bangs Lake to fish. Fishing for the entire timeframe is available at Cook Park fishing piers. Participants are asked to note their preferred time when registering, though it is not guaranteed, or indicate if they will use a personal boat. The event is free, but registration is required.
