Lindy's Landing in Wauconda, Illinois, is hosting a Door County-style fish and shrimp boil on the shores of Bangs Lake this fall, complete with the traditional "boil over." The event runs Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 8 p.m. for eight weekends, Sept. 11 through Oct. 31.

The Door County fish boil dates to the late 1800s, when Scandinavian immigrants on Wisconsin's Door Peninsula developed a simple, flavorful way to feed large groups. Cooks boiled freshly caught whitefish, potatoes and onions over an open fire. The meal became a signature community event known for its dramatic boil over, a fiery spectacle that signals the food is ready. A dinner bell then rings to gather diners. Today, the tradition celebrates local ingredients, heritage and togetherness.

The all-you-can-eat dinner costs $39.95 and includes a classic fish boil, a shrimp boil and a combo boil, among other options. A vegetarian boil is available for $19.95.
