Celebrating 15 years of International Jazz Day and the 250th anniversary of the United States, Ravinia presents International Jazz Day with John Clayton and Steve Wilson, featuring alumni of Ravinia’s Steans Institute Jazz Program and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz.
Established by the United Nations and UNESCO in 2011 with the vision of Chicago’s own legendary jazz musician Herbie Hancock, International Jazz Day brings the world together every April 30 to celebrate jazz’s role in fostering peace, intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding. This global initiative unites countries and communities, demonstrating the power of music to transcend borders.
Before the performance, visitors can explore Haunts & Heroes, The Legacy and Foundation of Chicago Jazz, a photographic exhibit celebrating the history of Chicago jazz with works by the late Steve Shapiro, Michael Jackson and others. The exhibit is located in the lobby of Bennett Gordon Hall and is free to anyone with a ticket to the concert.
