The Lake County Forest Preserve entity provides all of the holiday feels, especially when there's snow on the evergreens. Lake Carina Forest Preserve is highlighted by a fishing pier, access to the trails, an off-leash dog park, the perfect place for cross country skiing, nature observation and more. During the warm months, there is access into the Des Plaines River via canoe launch. But when it gets a little brisker, bring your rod and tacklebox for choice ice fishing.

Ahhhwooooo! The wolf has risen. Your little slip and sliders can have some holiday fun in the Northwoods-themed park and accommodation. Whatever the temperature may be outside, it’s always a comfortable 84 degrees in the Gurnee resort. Your woodsy adventure starts and ends with the 80,000-square-foot facility with water slides, a river to be lazy on, a wave pool, a kiddie area and so much more. A holiday celebration returns Six Flags Great America. World of Illumination, a light display that makes spirits bright experience, provides it's Arctic Adventure drive-through. Your host, is none other than Beti the Yeti, your shy but amiable tour guide to the illuminating outing is in cahoots with the man in the big red suit. Families will be immersed in an astounding snowflake tunnel, synced up to your favorite holiday tunes. The light display on a whole showcases over a million lights, while your drive will be about 20-30 minute experience complemented by your radio. On select days, visitors can go through the Six Flags Great America doors to ride the dolled up Columbia Carousel. Wasselers can also enjoy the eats and drinks from the Carousel Market and marvel at the park staple's lights.
