Military Reunion Testimonials
Lake County is ideal for a military reunion, but don't take our word for it...

"Well, it took 10 years to complete this process, but I finally kept my promise to have a reunion in Lake County. I am so grateful that you always kept in touch over the years, especially since Lake County provided one of the best reunions that we have ever had.
All of the details worked out before the reunion went exceptionally well, especially with the Hotel and it's location. The Hotel not only provided us with very nice rooms at a low price, but the meeting rooms and the layout were hard to find anywhere where we have had a reunion." - Stan Prager, USS Warrington DD 843

"Our plans for our reunion could not have been completed without the professional help we received from your staff. Everything that we asked of you was promptly addressed. I cannot tell you how much pleasure it was, to organize our visit to your area. I would like to personally thank Kimberly Ghys. Her knowledge was a real plus in walking me through all of our arrangements." - David McCarthy, Roy O. Hale Association

"Please extend my thank you to everyone involved in making our reunion a great success! The hotel, the Navy base and Cuneo Museum. Our day at the Base was great, everyone enjoyed the graduation, the speaker was an Admiral and this was his last official duty before he retired. He broke down during his speech and that got to everyone, also the ship's reunion was recognized at the graduation. We had a tour of the base which we didn't expect and the meal at Port O'Call was very good. The museum was very enjoyable and I think every-one was quite surprised. Overall we were happy with everything." - Ron Day, USS Thomas J. Gary Reunion

"The Chicago area was chosen by our group principally for its proximity to the last remaining US Navy Recruit Training Depot. Kimberly Ghys at the Lake County CVB was especially helpful and arranged meetings with hotel reps and provided necessary info about the Lake County places of interest, tour providers, etc. She was the go-between for the Naval Training Center. Lake County offers excellent access to many other interests in the area. The hotel rates are competitive and provide free parking ; both airports are within reasonable distance; there are many places to visit - among the best. We really had a super experience in Lake County." - Phil King USS Blue Association

"What a great reunion we had! I really can't begin to thank you enough for all your efforts on our behalf. The shipmates truly enjoyed themselves and raved about their experience in Lake County. The Welcome Packages from the Bureau were a great touch and truly appreciated by the shipmates and their families. You helped make our job so much easier and made us look good in the process. For that, and so much more, we are most grateful. Everyone said that Reunion XIX will be hard to top - you can take pride and satisfaction in the fact that is due in great part to your efforts!" - Laura Telling USS Oakland

"Our reunion is over. The hotel was great. Everyone enjoyed and appreciated the bags. We also thank you for your gifts to us. You all have been so great." - Elmer Hallen, 658th Amphibious Tractor Battalion Reunion

"I have been working with Kimberly for the past few months organizing a reunion in Zion for a WWII Navy Seabee group. She has been most helpful and went the extra mile for me. I enjoyed working with her and this she is a true asset to your community." - Janet Gillespie Pratt, CBMU 501

"It was our pleasure to work with Kimberly Ghys to put together our 20th USS FLOYD B. PARKS DD884 reunions in Lake County, IL at the Hyatt Deerfield Hotel. We are a large group (approx. 225 this year) and it takes special size rooms to accommodate all of us. Kimberly was our first contact as CVB is always the place where we start to scout a location for our reunions. We were absolutely very fortunate to touch base with her right from the start as she took amazing care of us through our entire reunion. When we scouted the Hyatt, Kimberly made sure that we got out about to see the Chicago area, took us to a Navy graduation at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and made sure that we had the names of the people there who would also take care of us. The CVB's are so very important to us and can make or break a reunion. Thanks to Kimberly's concern and attention to details, ours was a huge success. At one point we did hit a rough spot in the planning process but we contacted her and within hours she had it straightened out for us and we were back on the path to building one of the biggest and best reunions we have ever had. Many times the CVBs are very little help but for us this year, we couldn't have done it without Lake County CVB and most especially Kimberly Ghys. She has become like one of our family and we will miss her like crazy now. Thank you so very much for providing such an amazing person for us to work with. All other military reunions would benefit highly by contacting Lake County CVB and bringing your reunion to IL. Terrific time!" - Bill & Sue Birdson, USS Floyd B. Parks

"We just completed our 18th Annual Ship's Reunion for the USS Harold J. Ellison DD 864 in Deerfield, Illinois September 30th - October 4th, 2015. I have received nothing but accolades from all my shipmates about the arrangements for the hotel / tours and basically I am their hero. But the true hero's were your staff, your facility and the ability of an organization to work together to put an exceptional product to your customer. The "product" was presented in a professional manner, with good cheer and extreme ability. Kimberly Ghys worked with us addressing our particular needs. It is our express opinion that Kimberly worked above and beyond her expected boundaries and somehow remained composed in dealing with us senior citizens. She helped with getting buses plus disc jockey for our banquet. Helping us decide what different sights to see. The same professional and dedication continued throughout our stay or exceeding our needs. My shipmates and I want to thank all of the "team" for a job WELL DONE!!" - Phillip Fuller, USS Harold J Ellison DD 864
