This weekend, October 25-27, is full of spooky and thrilling events to get you in the Halloween spirit. From haunted houses to pumpkin patches, there's something for everyone to enjoy. And if you're looking for some light reading to set the mood, check out these spine-chilling stories:

1. "Dracula: A Live Radio Show" at Improv Playhouse in Libertyville

This Halloween season, immerse yourself in the eerie world of classic horror as Improv Playhouse in Libertyville presents "Dracula: A Live Radio Show.” With a nod to the spine-chilling radio dramas of the past, the theater's cast will bring Bram Stoker's iconic vampire tale to life in a unique, live radio format that is sure to stir the imagination of all who attend. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween best. Those arriving in costume will receive $2 off their cash ticket price. If you’re feeling brave enough, join Dracula and his cast of characters for a Halloween experience that will leave you spellbound. Don’t miss this chance to enjoy a bewitching blend of theater and radio drama, just in time for Halloween.

2. Vernon Hills Fall Fest at Vernon Hills Park District

Get ready for a spooktacular evening of Halloween thrills at the annual Vernon Hills Fall Fest. This festive event promises a night of indoor trick-or-treating, costume contests and Halloween fun that the entire family can enjoy. With activities designed for all ages, Fall Fest is a perfect way to kick off the Halloween weekend. Registration is required for all participants. Whether you're competing in their costume contest, playing games and more, the Sullivan Center party is a fun way to celebrate the season. 3. Boo Bash in Lincolnshire

Gather for a family-friendly ghoulish experience at Lincolnshire Annual Boo Bash. The North Park festival features a variety of Halloween activities, including pumpkin decorating, a haunted trail, games, a magician, inflatables and refreshments. Visitors are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite costumes and enjoy the festive atmosphere. The first 350 youngsters receive a complimentary goodie bag. Admission to the Boo Bash is free, but the Village of Lincolnshire encourages attendees to bring non-perishable food items as a suggested donation to support local food pantries. In case of rain or snow, Lincolnshire Boo Bash will move indoors to alternate location Stevenson High School’s field house. For more information visit Lincolnshireil.gov. 4. Trail of Treats at Zion Park District

Zion Park District’s Trail of Treats offers a Halloween-themed drive-thru experience that promises festive fun for all ages. The event, held at Shiloh Park, invites families to get into the Halloween spirit while staying comfortably in their vehicles. Participants are encouraged to don costumes and even decorate their cars as they make their way through the park. The drive-thru trick-or-treating experience will feature multiple candy stops operated by the park district, local businesses and community organizations. To learn more, visit ZionParkDistrict.com.

5. Halloween Experience Trolly Tour at Volo Museum

Prepare for a Halloween adventure like no other at the Volo Museum’s Halloween Experience Trolley Tour. This eerie, family-friendly event invites brave souls to explore the museum’s haunted history and escape the clutches of Halloween Town on a spine-tingling trolley ride across 75 spooky acres. The tour begins with an undead storyteller guiding you through the chilling true tales of Volo Museum’s haunted past. As the trolley winds through the grounds, you’ll learn about the paranormal encounters experienced by residents, staff and visitors over the years. As the trolley rolls deeper into Halloween Town, riders are greeted by towering inflatables and elaborate decorations. Whether you’re a ghost story enthusiast or just seeking a festive fright, the Halloween Experience Trolley Tour is the perfect way to celebrate the spooky season.
