This weekend is full of new adventures in Lake County, as we welcome in spring. The family has plenty of options with events happening indoors and outside. Let's look at things to do this weekend, March 24-26, 2023.
Say farewell to a local animal sanctuary in Lake Forest. Don a costume at the museum in Volo. A country music legend gets a well-deserved tribute in Lincolnshire. There is a whole night of dancing in Round Lake Beach. A horticulture exhibit is showcased in Glencoe. Look at the top five things to do this weekend, March 24-26, 2023.
Rob Carmichael, the Lake Forest sanctuary's curator for 25 years, is calling it quits. Before Carmichael heads into the sunset of retirement, take the family to see over 150 unique reptiles and other critters at Wildlife Discovery Center, including their rattlesnake collection, lizards, snakes of all shapes and sizes, turtles, tortoises, crocodiles, an assortment of frogs, a baby sloth and more. The inhabitants of the habitats are waving farewell before they head out to other animal sanctuaries or back into the wild. Unfortunately, the Lake Forest center has closed the outdoor exhibitions. The Wildlife Discovery Center remains open through March 24. Carmichael, his staff, and his furry, feathered and scaley homies will be missed.
Friday, March 24; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Donations accepted. Wildlife Discovery Center, 1401 Middlefork Dr., Lake Forest.
You'll get another day's use out of last year's Halloween costume at Volo Museum's 23rd installment of the Princess and Superhero Spring Break event. Any child ages 12 and younger dressed in their favorite costume will receive free admission into the museum. Volunteers will wear capes, masks, makeup, gowns, don crowns, and tiaras to interact and take pictures with the kids. Photo-ops with the prestigious Hollywood automobiles, face painting by InnoKreative Arts, food trucks, and more highlight the event.
