The summer countdown is officially 20 days away, as we look at Lake County's top five things to do this weekend June 2-4. Let's Go Lake County!
The Bitter Jester Music Festival (BJMF) is highlighted by some of the most talented, rising-star, high school and college-aged musicians from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, Tennessee, Missouri and Massachusetts. Each week, six bands and/or solo artists battle for a spot to perform in the June 25 Grand Finale. The Bitter Jester Foundation celebrates its 18th anniversary in this year’s edition in its night one and two performances. This ongoing concert series will entertain crowds at Port Clinton Square in Highland Park. The winner(s) receives $2,000, gear and additional performance opportunities. One BJMF Finalist is selected by the internet platform Elevator a GoGo for a $15,000 media package. Local Lake County Libation Trail™ favorite, Ravinia Brewing Company, will provide suds for purchase for those ages 21 and older. The festival’s grand finale features the winner of the “battle of the bands”-esque competition and performs at the Taste of Highland Park. Friday performances include Cõrduroy, David’s House, Fightin’ Bob, Girl Club, Geology Club, GreenTTea and The Tempos, KayZone, Misplaced Religion, Palace Kat and Rotting Key. Saturday’s lineup showcases Claire-Mckenna, East of Vilas, Heat Above, North Grove, Nyx, Rotundos, Scorched Waves, Ur Mom, Venganza and Zoe Imperium. BJMF hosts two more nights at Port Clinton Square on June 9-10 and the Grand Finale at The Lot’s Taste of Highland Park on June 25.

The Beach Boys are the real deal. The “Surfin’ USA” band visits Waukegan’s renowned Genesee Theatre Friday. This unique West Coast story continues with a global celebration befitting the remarkable and enduring legacy of these Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. Lake County’s Farmers Markets are more than just places to find the freshest, locally grown, and deliciously ripe fruits and vegetables of the season. The markets are also where neighbors, friends and family shop for unique handmade goods and explore the never-ending variety of local items from welcoming vendors. Lake Zurich Farmers Market starts the season with its first event of the year at Paulus Park. Besides the 30 vendors selling produce, bakery items, sauces, honey, cheese, meat and more, the market also features live music, hot food and pet rescues. The Lake Zurich Farmers Market runs every Friday through September 8.

So whatever Disney slap resonates with you, hum the along with the tunes and visit Long Grove's FairyTale Festival. Dress up like Elsa, Moana, Jasmine or other princess favorites at the Brothers’ Field fest. The event features a live princess show, exclusive VIP meet and greet, inflatables, unicorns and horses, dance parties, games, story time and more.

Invest your fest feels in a festival-infested Libertyville. First Fridays on MainStreet Libertyville, highlighted by various delectable drinks, mouth-watering eats, live entertainment, and more as visitors peruse through local mom-and-pop shops offering promotional sales. Improv Playhouse features its First Friday Funnies as renowned comedians grace the stage for a knee-slapping BYOB event. The Joyful Gourmet provides countless deals, a wine bar and a live performance by Jazz Soup. The Board Room hosts a happy hour where visitors can take 5% off their bill. Lake County Libation Trail partner Mickey Finn’s Brewery delivers tasty suds and D.J. Night featuring DJ Sylkk. The brewery also just released its Hefe Weizen beer.
