We're welcoming the arrival of spring this weekend, April 26-28, 2024. Lake County offers plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to enjoy. This weekend, the spotlight is on the Lake County Libation Trail at the Long Grove Craft Beer Festival in Long Grove. Here are the top things to do this weekend, April 26-28, in Lake County. And a special happy birthday to MainStreet Libertyville!

1. Arbor Day Celebration at Paulus Park in Lake Zurich

It’s Arbor Day and Lake Zurich is celebrating with a park clean up! The Arbor Day celebrations in Lake Zurich will kick off with a tree planting ceremony highlighted by a sapling and compost giveaway, providing residents with the opportunity to contribute to the greenery of their community. The Lake County village also hosts an Arbor Day Chalk Contest and a Native Plant Sale. Visitors are encouraged to join in the efforts to beautify Lake Zurich by participating in park cleanups across their 32 parks. Families are encouraged to join in the festivities and spend the day making a positive impact on their environment. Arbor Day, a holiday dedicated to the planting and care of trees, has a long history dating back to 1872 when the Nebraska Board of Agriculture proposed a day for tree planting. 2. Camping at Chain O'Lakes State Park in Spring Grove

Chain O'Lakes State Park invites outdoor enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the beauty of camping in nature. Encompassing over 6,000 acres, Chain O'Lakes State Park offers myriad recreational activities to suit every interest. The park also boasts a 44-acre lake, providing ample opportunities for boating, fishing and water skiing. Two campgrounds with over 230 sites offer a perfect setting for a peaceful outdoor getaway. The area includes seven picnic areas, trails for hiking, biking and birdwatching, areas for hunting and an archery range offer endless opportunities for outdoor recreation. Boaters can rent motorboats, rowboats, canoes and kayaks through the park's concessionaire, Gill's on the Chain. Reserve your slice of nature today! 3. Earth Day at Adler Arts Center in Libertyville

The Adler Arts Center in Libertyville invites the community to join in a day of education and action in celebration of National Earth Day. The annual event is designed to raise environmental awareness and provide educational opportunities for all ages. Learn about the importance of woods restoration, join in a community litter cleanup and get creative and create recycled art using plastic bottles. The Earth Day event at the Adler Arts Center promises to be a fun and informative day for the whole family. Mark your calendars and celebrate Earth Day at the Adler Arts Center.

4. Long Grove Craft Beer Festival in Historic Downtown Long Grove

Gather with friends and family for a delightful day at the Craft Beer Festival hosted by the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association. This annual event in Lake County promises to be the biggest yet, with 27 breweries showcasing their finest suds. While you’re sipping, tap your toes to live music performances throughout the day and sample delicious eats from local food vendors. Among the 27 participating breweries include Lake County Libation Trail locations like Buffalo Creek Brewing in Long Grove, Phase Three Brewing Co. in Lake Zurich, Ravinia Brewing Co. from Highland Park, Half Day Brewing Co. from Lincolnshire, Tighthead Brewing and Tonality Brewing Co. from Mundelein, Black Lung Brewing from Round Lake Beach and Fox Lake, 9th Hour Brewing from Lake Villa and Liquid Love Brewing Co. from Buffalo Grove. Admission includes a Long Grove Craft Beer Taster glass. The festivities include a live performance by local bluegrass band Fox Crossing Stringband. The Brothers’ Field party also includes unlimited craft brew samples, food vendors and more. Don't miss out on this exciting celebration of craft beer, delicious food, and live music. 5. Tulip Festival at Richardson Adventure Farm in Spring Grove

Celebrate spring at the Chicago Botanic Garden by writing a seasonal haiku and making a cherry blossom hanging scroll and/or try other hands-on activities like a suminagashi paper marbling demonstration. The Malott Japanese Garden Spring Festival kicks off with a tea ceremony as it teaches visitors about the island’s children celebrations. Experience traditional storytelling, a koto harp and Skahuachi flute music performance, create a miniature carp kite, construct a kimono-clad paper doll, take a walk in the Chicago Botanic Garden Japanese Garden and more. Saturday-Sunday, April 27-28; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe.
