Looking for dinner and a show? Fill your bellies this weekend at a local Lake County restaurant and tune into CLC's virtual concert. Afterwards, spend some time outside shredding the slopes or gazing at stallions. Warm up and learn about maple trees virtually with with Lake County Forest Preserve. Do it all in this edition of things to do this weekend February 26-28.

In celebration of the gradual reopening of restaurants in Illinois, the land of lakes convention and visitors bureau is launching the Lake County Restaurant Rally: Feed the Economy. Take these ten days of guilt-free eating to support Lake County’s local restaurants from February 26 - March 7. Try a new restaurant or make a reservation at your go-to spot as indoor dining has resumed with Restore Illinois mitigation has advancement to Tier 1 status. Support our local distilleries, wineries and breweries by grabbing libations via take-out or stopping in for a taste. Check in or tag the local business you are supporting on social media and don’t forget to leave a positive review after you’ve dined with #LCRestaurantRally. Whether you’re getting your meals to go or dining in, don’t forget to leave a generous tip for your servers and drivers. 2. College of Lake County Salute to Gospel virtual concert

To celebrate the final weekend of Black History Month, College Lake County (CLC) in Grayslake hosts its 37th installment Salute to Gospel virtual concert. This Zoom-hosted show features up and coming talents like Christian Music recording artist Jonathan McReynolds. The CLC performance is also highlighted by Chicago-based media personality, speaker and author Effie Rolfe and special music guest, Evanston-based MC4. This free admission program was designed as an outreach activity to encourage African American youth to consider the education CLC provides, as well as advocate for cultural enrichment and celebrate cultural heritage with its student body. 

Saturday-Sunday, February 27-28. Saturday 7 p.m., Sunday 3 p.m.; College of Lake County Zoom. Free admission, Register at CLCillinois.edu. 

3. The Tempel Lipizzans Highlights Performance

The Tempel Lipizzans presents their 2021 highlights performance. These classical horses and their riders will perform the four segment programs, all set to classical music. These include the stallion movements like the Solo, the Airs Above the Ground, the Long Rein and the Quadrille. Experience the socially-distanced show in the Old Mill Creek open air indoor arena. The exhilarating performance is unlike anything else in Lake County. Each segment highlights the communication, elegance, competitive dressage, intelligence and unforgettable choreography that each stallion and their trainer have learned together. Visitors are required to wear a mask upon entry.

4. Lake County Forest Preserve's Virtual Maple Tree Program

Don’t be sappy about winter, because maple you can entice your family with Lake County Forest Preserve’s (LCFPD) Virtual Maple Tree program. This sweet demonstration will be hosted via Zoom. Watch as these syrup extractors tap arbors for our favorite pancake dressing at Lake County’s Ryerson Conservation Area. LCFPD will educate participants on maple extrication, the science behind syrup production and more. Learn something new this weekend about Lake County’s own trees from the comfort of your home. Registration must be completed on a desktop computer at LCFPD.org (mobile phone registration not applicable) or by calling 847-367-6640. Registration closes on Sunday, February 28 at noon.

5. Winter Sports at Wilmot Mountain

As it starts to warm up, take it as one of your last chances to shred and tube on Wilmot Mountain. Located just north of Lake County, visit this winter fun destination for all snow activities imaginable. Whether you’re planning on taking on bunny hills with the family skiing, landing a 50/50 ollie on your snowboard or would rather tube all day long, Wilmot Mountain is the place “Where Epic Begins.” Advance reservations are required and no walk up sales will be permitted.
