Summer days drifting away, to, oh, oh the summer nights," sang Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in the classic flick "Grease." The Gurnee Days theme this year is "Super 70s" in honor of the village celebration's 50th born day. Since 1972, Gurnee Days has been a featured social and regarded as one of the county's premier summer festivals. The Gurnee Park District party is highlighted by a 10K and 5K run, a parade, a ribfest, a fireworks display, live entertainment, delectable eats, a car show, an art show, a petting zoo, a dodgeball tournament, and much more. Gracing the stage at the Gurnee show includes The GooRoos, School of Rock Libertyville, a live DJ, and more. The Gurnee Days parade steps off on Sunday, August 13, at noon. Art enthusiasts will flock to Route 21 for this weekend's annual Lincolnshire Arts Festival. Over 80 juried artists from across the country will display and sell extraordinary examples of fine art and crafts mediums at different price points. Art mediums from the vendors include jewelry making, oil and acrylic paintings, garmenting, carpentry, mixed media, and more will be showcased. Bring the youngsters along as the Lincolnshire festivities include art fest bingo, spin art, sand sculpting, coloring, drawing, face painting, and more. Adults ages 21 and older can sip a cold one from Lake County Libation Trail partner Half Day Brewing Co. Once you've perused through all of the vendors' works, enjoy live tunes from musicians performing on the Village Green stage. Attendees are encouraged to contribute to the 26th annual edition of the on-site mural.

John Legend is heading to Lake County to perform for "All of You" for his third appearance Ravinia Festival in Highland Park gives you the "Green Light" to "Get Lifted" and excited as Legend graces the Highland Park stage. The Ivy League grad (University of Pennsylvania) will be on his tour as he released his newest album, "Legend," in late 2022. Legend is not just "Ordinary People," as he has earned 12 Grammy Awards. The Ohio native will perform for two nights. Grammy Award-winning Blues Traveler is also on the docket this weekend with Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Who has created the fastest vessel in Lake County … made of cardboard? Fox Lake hosts its annual Cardboard Boat Race this Saturday. So grab your friends and construct the speediest watercraft on this side of the Mississippi. Don't get stingy with the paper and glue; remember, creativity is a plus (even if it instantly sinks). "Shove right off" to Lakefront Park, but first, you have to register at Fox Lake Village Hall. The registration includes a boat-building kit. Before the big boat race, the kiddies can Get their hook, line, and sinker ready as they try to catch muskie, crappies, bluegills, perch, and walleyes at Fox Lake's Youth Fishing Derby. The angler contest features giveaways, live music, and prizes for the top catches. The Fox Lake derby divides youngsters into two age groups – ages 11 and under and ages 12-18. Participants age 16 and under do not need a fishing license.

"Historically, black music has influenced other cultures and genres and created other genres," said Grammy Award-winning alternative R&B singer Miguel. Visit the Lake County Forest Preserves' Greenbelt Cultural Center for Afro Fest. The multicultural event showcases African Americans and other ethnic groups the perform their talents and artistic contributions. The all-day event hosted by Angelo Kyle features live music, dancing, fashion shows, book bags for the kids, a car and motorcycle show, pony rides, and more highlight the event.
