A New Coaster is planned for Six Flags Great America in 2017.
Holy Stalactites Batman! Move over caped crusader and SUPERMAN, because the DC Comic villain, THE JOKER, is making its entrance at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee.
That’s right. Six Flags Great America announced that THE JOKER Free-Fly Coaster is to be built and debuted by spring 2017.
This addition to the Gurnee amusement park is the 15th coaster to join BATMAN: The Ride, Raging Bull, Goliath, X-Flight, American Eagle, Viper, V2: Vertical Velocity, Demon, SUPERMAN: Ultimate Flight, the Whizzer and more.
Ironically, (or maybe obviously) THE JOKER will be constructed in the Yankee Harbor section of Great America – right next to his arch nemesis BATMAN.
So what’s the skinny on this coaster? If you’re looking for thrills – this one’s got it. This maniacal ride rises to 12 stories on a 90-degree lift. It is on a traditional steel track, but it will utilize magnetic technology. The cars will house up to eight people in a face-to-face format. Five cars will run at a time. Did we fail to mention each individual car flips in circles up to six times on its on throughout the ride?
That’s right, watch in this video as THE JOKER will have attendees spinning head over heels as you take dips, dives and turns as you somersault in this coaster.
The first version of THE JOKER was built at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ built by S&S - Sansei Technologies, formerly known as S&S Worldwide. The free-spin coaster is set to be installed at not only the Gurnee amusement park, but also Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA and Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, TX.
S&S – Sansei Technologies has worked previously with the Six Flags Company developing the Scream! Ride in Six Flags Fiesta Texas in La Cantera and Six Flags New England, as well as Batman: The Ride in the La Cantera park.
S&S listed that THE JOKER will stand at a height of 109 feet, and the ride will reach 38 mph in this 50-second spinning journey.
The VLC staff is excited about the plans for implementation of this new coaster for Six Flags Great America. Stay tuned and stay thrilled as our staff plans on taking THE JOKER challenge come spring 2017!
