2024 Lake County Fall-Winter Theatre Schedules Are Released

Lake County is famous for its vibrant live theater scene. This month, talented performers are taking the stage in beloved productions, bringing excitement as we transition from the holidays into the heart of winter. Theater enthusiasts have eagerly anticipated the fall 2024 schedule, and now the wait is over—Lake County theaters have announced their lineups for the season.

As always, you will laugh, cry, sing along and maybe dance to the tunes performed by the talented actors and actresses all year. This season, the Lake County arts venues feature myriad exciting shows, thrilling dances, great storytelling and some of the most enchanting music ever written for the center stage.

Improv Comedy at the Improv Playhouse (Saturdays)

Libertyville’s Improv Playhouse hosts adult-rated laughs and family-friendly fun! For over two decades, the downtown staple has provided the land of lakes with stand-up comedy, musical theatre, improvisation and acting classes for thespians young and old. The MainStreet Libertyville presentation is staging two shows on Saturdays: one for families at 7:30 p.m. and the adult show at 9:30 p.m. These shows are BYOB. If you love a good joke, you will be amused by the entertainment offered at this Improv Comedy show. Tickets for the show can be purchased online ImprovPlayhouse.com or for cash only at the door. For those ages 21 and older bringing alcoholic beverages, a $5 corking fee will be implemented for each individual drinking.

"1776" at Marriott Theatre (Through October 13)

Step back in time to the summer of 1776 with "1776" at the Marriott Theatre. This Tony Award-winning musical brings the birth of America to life, as John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson work to draft the Declaration of Independence. With courage, humor, and tension, "1776" reveals the human side of these iconic figures—proud, frightened and determined. "The Cottage" at Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest (September 11-October 13)

"Swinging on a Star: Jared Bradshaw Sings Bing Crosby featuring the Music of the Andrew Sisters" at Marriott Theatre (September 23-24)

Take a nostalgic trip back in time with "Swinging on a Star: Jared Bradshaw Sings Bing Crosby, featuring the music of The Andrews Sisters." Broadway star Jared Bradshaw, known for his performances in "Jersey Boys" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," brings the timeless charm of Bing Crosby to life. With his rich baritone and vintage flair, Bradshaw will serenade you with classics like “White Christmas” and “Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive,” accompanied by a trio of singers channeling the infectious harmonies of The Andrews Sisters. "Junie B. Jones: Toothless Wonder" at James Lumber Center for the Arts (September 26-29)

"Piff the Magic Dragon" at Genesee Theatre (October 26)

Experience the inspiring tale of "Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World" at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on October 29, with performances at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Presented by Lyric’s Opera in the Neighborhoods program, this bilingual opera, recommended for grades 3-5, tells the heartwarming story of a young girl named Mariana and her courageous friendship with the legendary artist Frida Kahlo. Based on Laurence Anholt’s book, the performance features vibrant characters, including a singing parrot, dog and monkey. Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" at Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire (October 30-December 29)

This holiday season, the stage will sparkle with the timeless charm of one of America’s most cherished classics as "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" comes to life. This heartwarming holiday extravaganza promises to be a must-see event, bringing festive cheer and dazzling performances to audiences of all ages. Based on the beloved silver screen classic, "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" is a delightful musical packed with iconic hits. Día de Muertos/Day of the Dead at Jack Benny Center for the Arts (November 2)

Celebrate Día de Muertos with the Waukegan Park District and Academia Cultural Xilotl on Saturday, November 2, at the Jack Benny Center for the Arts and Jane Addams Center in Bowen Park. This free community event will showcase beautiful altar exhibits, art vendors and traditional food. Enjoy live music and dance performances, as well as hands-on sugar skull workshops. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the rich cultural traditions of Día de Muertos. Bring your family and friends to honor and remember loved ones in a festive and vibrant atmosphere.

"Shrek: The Broadway Musical" at Genesee Theatre in Waukegan (November 2)
