Embrace the enchanting arrival of autumn with a weekend filled with exciting fall events in Lake County. From seasonal festivals to outdoor adventures, there's something for everyone to enjoy as we welcome the vibrant colors and crisp air of the season.

Here are the top five things to do this weekend September, 20-22, 2024.

1. A Bushel of Apples Fall Fest in Lake Zurich

The highly anticipated Bushel of Apples Fall Fest is back for a weekend of autumn festivities in Lake Zurich. This annual Paulus Park event promises three days packed with food, music, fall activities for kids and a special treat for craft beer enthusiasts: the exclusive Bushel of Apples peanut caramel apple beer by Lake County Libation Trail partner Phase Three Brewing in Co. collaboration with Affy Tapple. A local favorite (Niles, Illinois), the beer blends the nostalgic flavors of Affy Tapple’s iconic caramel apples with Phase Three’s brewing expertise. The festival features live tunes by Run Forrest Run, Matt Strom, Dog Country, a fall market, kid’s events like pumpkin painting, a scavenger hunt, Bozo Buckets and more, the Bushel of Apple beer and nine other Phase Three Brewing Co. brews and hard seltzers and more. 2. Deerfield Harvest Fest 

Welcome the autumnal equinox by visiting the Deerfield Harvest Fest in the village’s downtown area. Experience a myriad of events including the Deerfield Farmers Market, touch-a-truck, a car show, live tunes by the band West End 40 and Hi Infidelity and a bags tournament hosted by the village’s park district. The fall party is also highlighted by 12 local food truck vendors and a beer and wine tent that also includes fresh-pressed cider provided by Perfect Brewing Supply of Libertyville. 3. Fiesta Sin Frontera and ArtWauk in Waukegan

Downtown Waukegan is set to come alive with two vibrant events celebrating the city’s cultural diversity and artistic flair: the annual Fiesta Sin Frontera and ArtWauk. The Fiesta Sin Frontera is a lively celebration of Mexican Independence Day and heritage, with a focus on preserving and showcasing traditional customs. Visitors can explore a variety of food, artists and bands and store vendors. Later in the evening, the streets of Waukegan will transform into a hub of creativity with ArtWauk, the city’s monthly celebration of the arts. This art walk features a rotating selection of art exhibits, live musicians and performances. Local galleries will showcase unique art pieces, while musicians and performers add a dynamic soundtrack to the event. 4. Movie in the Park: “The Garfield Movie” in Grayslake

Join the Grayslake Park District on for a free outdoor screening of “The Garfield Movie.” The 2024 film featuring the beloved comic-strip and cartoon character to life created by Jim Davis, offering humor and adventure for both kids and adults. The 2024 film features the voices of actors Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham and more. With Garfield’s hilarious antics and lazy attitude, it’s sure to be an entertaining night for all ages. Don’t miss this chance for a free, fun night out in Central Park Performance Pavilion. 5. Riverside Foundation Oktoberfest 5k Run/Walk at Half Day Brewery

Lace up your running shoes and race to the Riverside Foundation’sthird annual Oktoberfest 5K Run/Walk. Starting and finishing at Lake County Libation Trail partner’s Half Day Brewing Company, this event combines fitness and fun in a festive Oktoberfest theme. With the course now USATF-certified with the time will be officially recorded. Participants will navigate a scenic, chip-timed course that winds through the charming streets of Lincolnshire. After crossing the finish line, participants are invited to celebrate at the Oktoberfest-themed post-race party at Half Day Brewing Company. Whether you’re running for a personal best or walking for a good cause, this 5K and after party promises to be a memorable morning for all involved.
