Let's look at Lake County's top five things to do this weekend, June 14-16, 2024. 

1. Juneteenth Lake County 2024 at Foss Park in North Chicago

As Juneteenth Lake County moves to its new venue at Foss Park, visitors celebrate the end of slavery in the United States, honoring the history, culture and achievements of the African American community.  This annual event is filled with music, arts and crafts, culinary delights and unity. Experience the musical heritage of the African American community with live band performances from myriad artists including Grammy Award-nominated R&B singer Jon B on Saturday and BET Award-winning band Kindred the Family Soul. The North Chicago event also will host a Mr. and Mrs. Juneteenth as well as a Jr. Mr. and Ms. Juneteenth Royal Court. The Friday festivities feature a Family Day, which is free to the public. Juneteenth Lake County is an event you won't want to miss—come and be part of a celebration that pays tribute to the African American community and brings participants together in joy and solidarity.

Friday-Sunday, June 14-16; Fri.: 5-10 p.m., Sat. noon-11 p.m. and Sun.: noon-9 p.m. Admission starts at $37.50 on Saturday and Sunday shows. Free admission to the festival. Foss Park, 1901 Foss Park Ave., North Chicago.

2. Beach Bash at Diamond Lake in Mundelein

Are you craving some memories? Watch your past return to life as Zion hosts its 35th annual Nostalgia Days at Shiloh Park. Experience a ton of excitement, including live music, Lake County's largest, longest-running car, truck & motorcycle show, outdoor Diamond Lake Beach and Recreational Center will host the sixth annual Beach Bash, a day of basking in the sun, swimming, sand adventures and fun. Mundelein Park District invites residents and visitors to discover Diamond Lake, the village’s hidden gem. Attendees of all ages can enjoy free kayak and paddle boat rentals, swimming and park play. The day kicks off with Beach Zumba, followed by a DJ and an inflatable water slide will be available. The kickoff to summer also provides beach games, food trucks and a Bubble Bash too. The School of Rock Libertyville will perform, adding a musical highlight to the event. Mundelein's Beach Bash offers a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement, promising a memorable day for families and friends.

3. Libertyville Days in Downtown Libertyville

It’s a party in downtown Libertyville and everyone’s invited. With this year’s theme, “Going for the Gold,” the Libertyville Days festival promises to deliver a weekend filled with activities for all ages. Libertyville Days will feature a carnival, beer garden and an arts and crafts fair. Other highlights include a parade, children's activities, fire safety demonstrations and an open house at the National Register of Historic Places venue, the Ansel B. Cook Mansion. The live music schedule features a slew of local bands including Tim Gleason Band, Pino Farina Band, Expo’76 and more. The beer garden features local eats and drinks from Main Street Social and Lake County Libation Trail partner Mickey Finn’s Brewery. The Church Street Eats section also features myriad options including Mama Jerk n Tings of Waukegan. Attendees can also enjoy root beer making demos compliments of Perfect Brewing Supply, a baggo tournament, Miss Libertyville Pageants, a rib cookoff and so much more. Bring your family and friends to downtown Libertyville and be a part of this golden celebration.

4. Wizards Weekend in Downtown Antioch

Prepare your wands and ready your broomsticks as the Antioch Chamber of Commerce presents Wizards Weekend Day. The Antioch celebration is themed mainly on best-selling book series and box office smash the “Harry Potter” saga. The festivities begin with the Kids School of Magic, tailored for young witches and wizards ages seven to 13. Participants will receive a wand, a magic band, a keepsake gift and a map to explore Antioch's Wizard Town. The curriculum includes classes in Care of Magical Creatures, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology and more. Other spellbound attendees will delight in invisibility spells, Quidditch, a magical crafters pop-up faire and encounters with magical creatures. Visit Antioch for a day brimming with magic and adventure for all ages. 

Saturday, June 15; 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission starts at $15. Other activities require separate admissions. Wizard Village, various locations in downtown Antioch, 882 Main St., Antioch.

5. 36th Annual Nostalgia Days in Downtown Zion

Since its inception in 1987, Nostalgia Days has been a hallmark event for the community of Zion. One of the most anticipated highlights of Nostalgia Days is Lake County’s largest and longest running antique and custom car show. This showcase has historically drawn over 600 show cars. The open cruise occurs on both nights, starting at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at 5: 30 p.m. In addition to muscle and vintage vehicles, there will be plenty of food, vendors and family activities including a sock hop, an outdoor movie showing of 1973 George Lucas film “American Graffiti” starring Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Richard Dreyfuss and more, live radio broadcasts from 95 WIIL ROCK, 102.3 STAR FM and TUDN 1440-AM, live performances from area music and dance groups a touch a truck event and more. Nostalgia Days offers residents and visitors alike a chance to connect, reminisce and create lasting memories
