Tasty food, zombies, history and all things fabulous are on the docket for things to do this weekend October 14-16, 2022.

Spooks & Spirits: Lake County, IL Autumn Celebration, has something for everyone. Don’t forget to take part in the 10-Day Check-In Challenge. Brewers, wine and spirit enthusiasts can check in for the October challenge via mobile device. The 10-Day Check-In Challenge and The Spooks and Spirits: Lake County, Illinois Autumn Celebration runs through Halloween.

While out and about, snap some pics of the little ghouls and goblins for the #LetsSnapLakeCounty Photo Contest! Participants have the opportunity to win a prize. The contest goes through October 31.

Check out the seasonal festivals that Lake County has to offer. Check these spots out when looking for that ideal autumn photoshoot. Get lost in a corn maze and pick a pumpkin for the spookiest day of the year.

1. Howl-oWeen at Great Wolf Lodge Illinois

Release the little ghouls and goblins into the wilderness of Gurnee's Great Wolf Lodge Illinois. Howl-o-Ween features an array of "unboolieveable" activities that are part of any overnight stay. The Halloween-themed events include Boo Bingo, Adventures of the Great Wolf Pack Halloween stories, arts and crafts, Trick-or-Treat Trail, Howl-o-Ween Trivia, Thrill of Howl-o-Ween Yoga Tails, The “Monster Mash” Dance Party and more. The Howl-o-Ween activities are available to all guests at the resort. Guests can upgrade their Halloween experience and add the Howl-o-Ween treat pack to their reservation. The treat pack upgrade features two candy lanterns, two pairs of Howl-o-Ween wolf ears and one bag of popcorn to share with the family. While visiting the resort, don’t forget to experience the glow-in-the-dark miniature golf course, water slides, game arcade, rock wall and bowling. Howl-o-Ween runs through October 31. 2. United States Navy Birthday at National Museum of the American Sailor

Visit The National Museum of the American Sailor on Saturday and experience the sailor spirit as they celebrate the United States Navy's 247th birthday. The free Naval Station Great Lakes party features navy veteran and maritime musician Tom Kastle. He shares stories of his time in the service, sings sea shanties and plays tunes from the earliest days of Navy history. Browse and learn exciting facts from exhibits like “Sails Unfurled: The Dawn of the U.S. Navy, 1775-1865,” “Marked By the Sea: Tattoos in the U.S. Navy,” “Holidays at the Hostess House” and more following the festivities.

3. ZombieWAUK in Waukegan

The annual ZombieWAUK returns Saturday with a salute to the undead art-horror scene and a slew of other Halloween-inspired happenings. Downtown Waukegan takes on a ghoulish persona as the living dead roam the streets and psychics spin tales. This Halloween take on the City of Progress’s monthly ArtWAUK festival showcasing local works of local artists, sculptors, painters and other mediums. Shop the local galleries, eateries and various participating businesses while dodging the shambling horde. On Friday, Theresa Caputo, the "Long Island Medium," performs at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan. Caputo shares personal stories, performs live psychic readings and provides insight into her abilities from a 20-year career. Tickets to see Theresa Caputo are $48.

4. Fashion Show and Luncheon on MainStreet Libertyville

Visit the Libertyville Civic Center and experience Lake County's latest seasonal fashion. The fashion show features a luncheon while viewing the merchandise from Lake County businesses that sell clothing and stylish daily accessories. The Picnic Basket & Gourmet Food Works cater the luncheon and serve gourmet Americana bites. Tickets for the luncheon and fashion show are $50. A raffle for the Highland Park Community Foundation features prizes donated by MainStreet Libertyville businesses. Enter to win a TW Steel 40mm rose gold plated watch with a sunray rose gold dial and Swarovski crystal bezel valued at $495 from Rolland's Jewelers. More raffle prizes will be announced at the Libertyville fashion showcase. 5. Make Your Own Glass Pumpkins at Peter Patterson Glassworks

Pumpkins might have a short shelf life between the seasonal fun and their tendency to look rough after the holidays. Why not create one that will last forever, and you pick the color? Peter Patterson Glassworks in Mundelein is hosting the “Make Your Own Glass Pumpkins Open House” event. Expert glassmakers will guide you through the process of making a gorgeous gourd that will last a lifetime. Glass pumpkins can be made to give as a gift, an indoor home accent or as a beautiful seasonal tabletop centerpiece. The Mundelein studio will host pumpkin open houses on October 15-16 and 22-23.
