The workweek is wrapping up and we've set our sights on the weekend! As predicted, there are dozens of great things to do this weekend May 11-13.

Spring into your two-day mini-vacation with the top things to do this weekend May 11-13.
Swing, slide and zip to downtown Antioch for the 885 Civic Club’s annual Spring Carnival. Enjoy dozens of thrilling rides, fun games and a plethora of delectable bites at the exhilarating weekend event. Carnival admission is free, however, attendees may purchase ride tickets individually or an unlimited daily pass for $20 per person. Carnival donations benefit many local charities and organizations.

Show mom how much you appreciate her by walking or running 3.1 miles by her side. Race to Zion Park District’s Mama’s 5K for a morning of quality time together. The fun run begins and ends in front of the Zion Leisure Center. Following the mom jog, competitors can enjoy delicious eats and see the awards presentation. Runners can register at zionparkdistrict.org, or sign up onsite before the race.

Marriott Theatre gives its final curtain call to “The Emperor’s New Clothes” this weekend. The Hans Christian Andersen tale is the feel-good story of outward appearance and character. Marcus, the story’s, protagonist, is a young emperor who is swindled into purchasing expensive magical clothing to gain confidence in taking the throne. Upon realizing he has been fooled, Arno, the simple-hearted mop boy tries to help Marcus out of this royal mess. “The Emperor’s New Clothes” runs through Saturday, May 12.

Lace up your running shoes and build up your appetite for the Northern Illinois Food Bank’s “Foodie 5K.” Register to walk or run at the Libertyville event and afterward enjoy a family-friendly festival featuring live entertainment, food trucks, a kid’s zone and more. Paid participants will receive a T-shirt, a $2 food truck voucher and a ticket for any 2018 Schaumburg Boomers home game. All proceeds will go towards the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Competitors can register online at solvehungertoday.org or signup onsite before the race.
