Here are the top things to do this weekend in Lake County 17-19.
Throw on a leather jacket and run a comb through your hair before heading out the door to go and see the beloved musical comedy “Grease.” The musical originally made famous by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta kicks off a jam-packed 2020 season for the Marriott Theatre. This romantic comedy follows a story about two high school love birds from opposite worlds. And as you may already know, opposites attract. Enjoy a “Grease Lightning” production during the dog days of winter and dream of the ensuing “Summer Nights.” The Lincolnshire production runs through March 15. Saturday’s show at 4 p.m. and Sunday’s show at 1 p.m., are nearly sold out.

Watch one of Shakespeare’s timeless stories come to life as Ukraine’s prestigious dance company is world renown. Immerse yourself in this classic tale of two lovers from the feuding families portrayed through mesmerizing choreography. While in downtown Waukegan explore the sights and sounds on display during ArtWauk. Observe a plethora of unique art exhibits in paintings sculpture, film and performance art, live music and grab a bite from a local restaurant as you appreciate the works crafted by national and local artists.

The Northern Illinois Sports Show makes a stop at the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center. This show offers dozens of fishing and hunting seminars as well as hundreds of vendors providing deals on all of your great outdoors needs. The vendors in attendance specialize in angling, hunting, retail outfitting, taxidermy, boating and various other sporting equipment, accessories and décor at the Grayslake facility.

Travel back in time and see the U.S. Navy’s inception through the Civil War-era fleet at the National Museum of the American Sailor’s brand-new permanent exhibit. Based on the navy’s eldest vessel the USS Constitution, “Sails Unfurled” is an immersive exhibit that demonstrates the work of enlisted sailors during the period of 1775-1865. Visitors can test their skills at the sail’s knot-tying station and obtain hands-on experiences through the other interactive elements in this exhibit.

Escape the “chili” temperatures and visit the Gorton Community Center to cure your winter blues. The Chili Cook-Off invites Master Chefs to show off their award-winning recipes. If it’s a nice hot bowl of chili you crave, taste testers are welcome too. This family event features raffle prizes, a cash bar and of course, plenty of delicious chili recipes to warm your soul. Each participating team will have their chili featured on the Lake Forest facility’s website. The Chili Cook- Off winners will be announced at 5:45 p.m.
