Garden extras: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – A Day-Long Garden Celebration. Bill Kurtis and Donna LaPietra’s favorite day each year is their Open Day. Guests are treated to a range of interactive experiences that highlight their hosts’ many passions for the natural world. Explore 25 acres of tall grass prairie in full bloom by walking mowed paths or taking a club car tour with Bill. Enjoy local artisanal edibles and learn more about green markets and environmentally conscious food choices. Check out a photographic exhibit of the garden in the Kurtis Conservation headquarters. Stop in at the Kids Fun Table. Bring a picnic!
11 to 11:30 a.m. – The Art of Forest Bathing: Shinrin-Yoku. A brief walk through the woods with a tree expert while immersing all your senses in the healing forest.
1 to 2:30 p.m. – The Buzz. Bill and Donna’s beekeeper will have a hands on demonstration of the beehives and the work of these busy pollinators. Visitors can sample “Bill’s Bees Mettawa Prairie Honey.”
2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. – Manor House Tour & Presentation, “Deep Roots: How the Prairie Can Save the Planet.” Donna and Bill will welcome guests for a house tour where Bill will also present his latest conservation projects. There is an additional fee of $10.
Admission to this garden is $10 per person and children 12 and under are free.
