One of the earliest signs of spring is the American woodcock's mating dance. Woodcocks are reclusive, ground-dwelling birds related to the sandpiper. For a brief period in the spring at dusk and dawn, males can be observed taking off into the sky with a song and a dance that is sure to impress!
