Santa's Parade

Whenever the man in the big red suit arrives, there is a fanfare. Jolly Old St. Nick will start his auspicious route at the corner St. Mary's Road and Oak Trail Drive. Claus will take turns all through the downtown Libertyville area ultimately ending his parade at Milwaukee Avenue and East Winchester Road. More details will be available soon.

Dickens of a Holiday in Libertyville

"There is nothing in the world so irresistbly contagious as laughter and good humor." - Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." Experience the holiday festivities as MainStreet Libertyville hosts a Dickens of a Holiday in Cook Park. This event features a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, Victorian tea time at the St. Lawrence Episcopal Church (which is sold out, but you can put your name on the waiting list) at the Libertyville Civic Center and the Children’s Shoppe at Petranek’s Pharmacy which only youngsters are allowed inside. Donations of non-perishable food items for Libertyville Township Food Pantry are encouraged.

"It's a Wonderful Life A Radio Play" Presented by Improv Playhouse

“Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.” The Improv Playhouse Theater presents “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play” this weekend. The Libertyville performance center’s holiday tradition stages their rendition of the Frank Capra holiday classic. The play, performed in the fashion of a 1940s radio show, features the tale of George Bailey. The show’s protagonist puts his big dreams on hold to take over his father’s business who abruptly passes away. Bailey faces many adversities during his endeavor that essentially saves the town of Bedford Falls during the Great Depression. With Bailey down on his luck, frustrated with life and questioning his own existence a guardian angel named Clarence tries to steer him away from suicide. This event is a BYOB event with a $5 corking fee. The Improv Playhouse will also serve mulled wine for purchase as well as milk and cookies free of charge.

Donuts with Santa

What can we say, Kringle likes to eat. Kris Kringle will be posted up at the Crawford House where they will be serving Lee's Famous Donuts. The festive confection event is also highlighted by visits with the man with the naughty or nice list, arts and crafts and a special gift from Father Christmas. Space is limited.

"There has never been a sadness that can't be cured by breakfast food," - Ron Swanson from hit show "Parks & Recreation." Papa Noel is ready for all the breakfast eats he can get his hands on. He'll make a trip down to the Libertyville farmgrounds breakfast nook to have a bite with you at the Magnolia Café & Bakery. Virtual Visits with Santa

Not everyone has the COVID-19 vaccine yet. Santa understands that and offers a virtual chat with youngsters of Libertyville as he Zooms in from the North Pole. Once registered, an email will be sent to mom and dad to set up your designated virutal time followed by a questionnaire. A link will be sent to all the nice girls' and boys' parents the day before the chat.

Polar Express in Libertyville

"Sometimes that light at the end of the tunnel is a train." The holiday season is here and if you've been working on the railroad, just to pass the time away, you can provide a wonderful experience for your youngsters at the Plar Express Storytime in Libertyville. All aboard to the Libertyville Metra Station that takes youngsters to the North Pole (a.k.a Fox Lake). Youngsters will get to hear the story of the award-winning "The Polar Express" by Chris Van Allsburg. The event is also highlighted by goody bags, Christmas caroling, an appearance by the man in the red suit himself and a comfy ride with you donning your holiday pajamas. The trip takes 90 minutes, and the Polar Express always leaves on time (so be prompt). The rides are sponsored by the Vernon Hills Park District.

Independence Grove Forest Preserve

Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville

Centered around a 115-acre lake, this preserve offers a variety of natural scenery. Surrounding prairie and woodlands provide a picturesque backdrop for hiking and biking opportunities and is home to gravel, paved and combo paved-and-gravel trails. Roughly 6.25 miles of trails circle the lake and run through scenic natural areas. In the gravel department, Lakeside Trail runs 2.3 miles and there is a short section that connects to the Des Plaines River Trail. Overlook Trail is a paved trail stretching 2.5 miles, and North Bay Trail Loop is 0.75 miles, while South Bay Trail Loop runs 0.70 miles. If it snows, the LCFPD area offers snowshoeing and ice skating.
