Maybe that wasn’t the proper lyrics, season or equipment, but it’s that time of year when your youngsters go door-to-door in the neighborhood and demand people to smell their feet and provide their taste buds with some nourishing sugar treats.

Trick or Tween in Lake Zurich (October 11)

Enter if you dare for Lake Zurich’s freaky Friday Trick-or-Tween Haunted Halloween event. The party gets underway as DJ The Great Boodini brings the beats that will have you out on the dance floor. There will be plenty of pizza to fill up even the hungriest of monsters, and guests will be playing a variety of tricky games. Be sure to dress for success and enter the costume contest for a variety of prizes.  The Paulus Park Barn affair is a drop-off event for children ages nine-to-12 years old.

This festival has pumpkins stacked to the sky. Get into the spirit with your friend Jack while holding a lantern and journey to Highwood for the Great Pumpkin Festival. Once again, the festival will be jam-packed with daily events, a variety of food and drink vendors, a carnival, live tunes, hayrides, pony rides, pumpkin carving, massive pumpkin displays, nightly pumpkin lightings, a parade, Superhero 5K/10K and other festivities. The live entertainment includes Unity the Band, Clayton Mann Band, Catfight, Cirrus Falcon and more.

Doggy Trick or Treat in Mundelein (October 12)

Unwind after a ruff week and bring your costumed four-legged friend to Mundelein’s annual Doggy Trick-or-Treat event. Strut your pup through the village’s community park and experience a variety of howl-o-ween-themed activities. In addition to the trick or treating and the costume fashion show, your canine can bob for weenies, scamper on an agility course, capture a photo-op in the booth, search for bones in the graveyard and more. Fare will be available for purchase at this event, and all dogs must be accompanied by an owner age 15 years and older.

This event is the marquee fall festival in Antioch. The night has their treat the streets Halloween where the downtown area gives these youngsters something good to eat. The fest follows at 2 p.m. with hayrides, fare and drink vendors, games, a bounce house, wiener races, a pumpkin roll and costume contest.

Trucks, Trunks and Treats in Vernon Hills (October 19)

Touch some trucks, trunks at treats at this Vernon Hills event. how off your Halloween costume while walking through the aisles of trucks. Bring your trick-or-treat bags to receive candy from the operators at each vehicle. The triple T party is also highlighted by a hayride and bounce house.

The boo bash inside Gurnee Mills on the Macy's wing features mall-wide trick or treating, spooky tunes and a free photo booth to snap the chilling moments.

Halloween Town in Long Grove (Trick or Treat Oct. 25; Event Oct. 11-28)

Long Grove is the spookiest place to be during Halloween. The town turns downright ghoulish, and the Lake County village wants ghastly goblins to intend this event. Feel free to bring the gremlins.

Lincolnshire Boo Bash (October 25)

Families will flock to Lincolnshire’s North Park for the village’s beloved Boo Bash. The Halloween-themed event will feature a haunted trail/house, pumpkin decorating, games, a live DJ, a bounce house, a gigantic slide, food trucks, laser tag, a photo booth and more. The community festival is suitable for all ages and is free to attend.

Trail of Treats and Fest in Zion (October 25)

The kids shall trick, and they shall also be treated at Shiloh Park on the 27th Street tennis court. This trail starts from the aforementioned courts running toward the city's leisure center. Following the treat trail, the youngsters will party with sugar on the brain. The fest portion is highlighted by more candy, face painting, a costume contest, toy prizes, a hayride and a bounce house.

Ghosts, ghouls and especially goblins are all invited to the spookster fest at Vernon Hill's Sullivan Community Center. The park district hosted event features indoor trick or treating, balloon art, a black light dance party and the annual costume contest. Register early!

Halloween Hoopla in Deerfield (October 25-26)

What’s all the hoopla in Deerfield? This pre-Halloween social at Jewett Park Community Center features inflatable rides, lucrative giveaways, a zombie apocalypse trail game, a pumpkin patch, carnival games, a haywagon trip, live entertainment and so much more.

Mundelein Boo Bash (October 26)

Bring your boo-hind to this spooky Mundelein bash. The ghostly gathering features trick or treating, games, giveaways, a bounce house and a photo booth.

Hawthorn Mall's Spooktacular (October 26)

Kiddies will be tricked and treated to a free movie showing of "Hocus Pocus." Besides the flick of the ladies "double, double toil and trouble," younglings will receive a Halloween candy bag, create spooky crafts and get their face painted. The winner of Hawthorn Mall's Great Pumpkin Contest will be announced. The Vernon Hills mall asks attendees not to wear masks or costumes with weapons.

Boogity boo! Take a stroll on the Halloween Trick or Treat Trail, a new tradition for families with professionally-costumed loved and feared characters for all to meet. Families will have the opportunity to interact with characters, scenes, and sounds along the trail. Children will receive treats (not tricks) along the way. Costumes are encouraged.
