Happenings today in Lake County (February 18)

With the kids off of school, there are several events happening in Lake County this President's Day for the entire family to enjoy. Here is a list of just a few of the events that are free or inexpensive. Be sure to check out our website for more events and coupons.

Lake County Discovery Museum - Spend the day doing a variety of hands-on activities, crafts, listening to stories and much more. The Lake County Discovery Museum displays the nation's largest permanent exhibit on the history and significance of postcards. Admission is $6 for adults, $2.50 for youth ages 4 -17, $3 for students ages 18 to 25 and seniors ages 55 and up, and free for children three years and under.

Playdate with Nature at the Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago - Turn off the TV and head outside for interactive play activities designed to connect adults and children with nature. Explore nature using all your senses, build a snow fort, and follow an animal track to see where it takes you. The event starts at 1pm, is free and for children of all ages, with a caregiver.

Rink Side Family Entertainment Center, located in Gurnee Mills Mall - Rink Side is a great place for kids to enjoy the day off of school. Besides playing arcade games, kids will love playing laser tag, mini golf and ice skating. For $24.95, receive 1 large cheese pizza, 1 pitcher of soda, and 4 wristbands that are good for laser tag, glow golf and ice skating.

Gurnee Mills President's Day Super Sale - If you have not had time to shop at Gurnee Mills Mall this weekend, today (Monday) is your last opportunity to save money in their President's Day Sale. Look for the stores with a "Super Sale" sign in their window to receive deep discounts at brand name outlets, off-price retailers and unique specialty stores.

President's Day at the Farm - Head out to Susanna Farms and the new Scottish Highland bull calves. The bulls were born in January and a naming contest is under way, and visitors can vote for a favorite name. Other highlights include a straw maze and hayride through the snow-covered fields. Admission is $2 per person and $5 for the hayride. Susann Farms is located in Lake Villa and open from 11am - 5pm.

Jelly Belly Center - Take a ride on the Jelly Belly train with free guided tours at Jelly Belly Center. Discover the secrets of making Jelly Belly® jelly beans. Retail store open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily,(Tours 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
