Retreat to the Iconic Ragdale Estate: Open to the Public for the First Time in 125-years

Plan your next group retreat with Ragdale Retreats. An historic estate built by famed Architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, its structures represent the finest examples the Arts and Crafts Movement, reflecting natural forms and personal craftsmanship and it is listed on the National Register of Historic places.

Shaw  put his heart and soul into the estate, tending to everything himself, including pouring foundation, laying bricks and planting the surrounding trees and gardens. Shaw's descendants were the only private owners of the estate, until 1976 when his granddaughter Alice Judson Hayes, shared his legacy with the broader artists’ community and created one of the most respected artist residency programs in the country. The estate remains today, almost exactly as it did during Shaw’s residence in the late 1890s, but with all modern amenities and comforts.

Now, for the first time in 125 years, the Ragdale estate is available for full-day and overnight private group off-sites, creative retreats and corporate retreats, offering single-occupancy rooms for groups of up to 23 people during select dates throughout the year.

Be inspired by the surroundings of this national treasure, where celebrated works of art are on display indoors and outdoors, throughout this historically and architecturally significant property. Ragdale’s seven acres comprise iconic historical buildings, world class studios and facilities, as well as exquisite gardens and unobstructed views of one of the last remaining open prairies in the US. Ragdale Retreats offers well-appointed accommodations, creative cuisine and an unparalleled experience. At Ragdale Retreats their guests also have the unique opportunity to indulge in interactive programs, private performances and informative face-to-face roundtables led by noted Ragdale alumni who are Teaching Artists for the Ragdale Retreats Creative Curriculum.

This private retreat center is available for exclusive booking of the full campus. Except for those with accessible needs, Ragdale Retreats uses a blind assignment model for all suites. The estate has 16 single-occupancy suites with private baths, seven suites can accommodate double occupancy.

When you book a private Ragdale Retreat, you help support the arts.
