Last week was a perfect kickoff to the holiday weekend, and this is no different in this edition of things to do this weekend December 2-4.

We have plenty of holiday cheers and happenings hosted around Lake County all throughout December.

1. LeAnn Rimes, 'Today is Christmas Tour 2016,' at the Genesee

Since age 13, LeAnn Rimes has topped national charts and is a renowned singer/songwriter internationally. The two-time Grammy-Award winner will grace the stage at Genesee Theatre with her ‘Today is Christmas Tour 2016.’ Experience the songstress perform her self-written songs like ‘How Do I Live,’ ‘Blue,’ ‘Today is Christmas,’ and many more holiday season favorites.

Friday, December 2; 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $38-$58. Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.

2. Dancenter North's The Magic of the Nutcracker

The Magic of the Nutcracker is a spectacular sight and a renowned ballet worldwide. Clara’s dream has been brought to life in a beautiful production by Dancenter North which features over 100 performers, including globally celebrated guest artists. For 28 years, Dancenter North has performed this fan-favorite ballet. They will feature two showings of the classic holiday ballet at Libertyville High School.

3. Grayslake's Polar Express

Your kids are never sure they’ve gotten their wish list to Santa in on time. Let them deliver it personally to the man in the big red suit as Grayslake hosts their Polar Express Train. This story-time event will be at Grayslake’s Metra station. Youngsters and grown-ups alike will enjoy the ambiance of the train ride and a story teller reading the award-winning holiday story, ‘Polar Express.’

Sunday, December 4; 1:52 p.m. Child Admission: $12, Adult Admission: $15. Grayslake Train Station, 67 St. Paul St. and Lake Street, Grayslake.

4. PM&L Theatre Presents a Christmas Carol

“Old Marley was as dead as a doornail,” Old Jacob Marley and a cast of other memorable Charles Dickens characters are lined along Main St. and Lake St. in Antioch for the Dickens Holiday Village. Watch Dickens come alive in historic downtown Antioch as lifelike wax figures are caroling, working and so much more. Each collection of statues has a backstory placed beside it. Also head to P.M. &L Theatre as they open ‘A Christmas Carol,’ for the season; a play made famous by the aforementioned author. The show runs through December 18.

5. Deerfield Park District's Candy Cane Train

All aboard the Candy Cane Train! Experience holiday sweetness as Deerfield Park District and the Deerfield Metra host the excited kiddies when Santa Claus comes to town. Don’t forget your camera so you can snap a memorable photo. Children ages 10 and under with a parent or family member are welcome. Register in advance. Refreshments will be served.
