Boating Lake County

Cheers to Chic, Charming and Chocolate
Let the ride take you...

Call/text your shopping divas and rekindle your friendships with this fun weekend (or weekday) getaway in Lake County

Day One - Get your Chic on! Start your day at the Gurnee Antique Market - 24,000 feet of antique heaven. And yes they are all antiques - the center guarantees that all items are at least 50 years old.

Lunch is at our infamous Salutos of Gurnee where their house salad dressing is a well-kept secret. This family-owned restaurant features homemade pastas, sauces and desserts.

The afternoon calls for a visit to one of our many cherished Main Street communities - Antioch, Grayslake, Libertyville and Waukegan. Visit a variety of shops offering china, local artwork, culinary supplies, foodstuffs, craft supplies and so much more.

Check into one of our more contemporary hotels - Hotel Indigo or SpringHill Suites Waukegan/Gurnee.

The cheers initiate a wonderful evening starting at North Shore Distillery. Take a tour of Illinois' first craft distillery since Prohibition and partake in full drink samples. Just a quick jaunt down the road is Lake County's famous restaurant - The Silo. This rustic-style and friendly establishment is best known for their deep dish pizza, and gluten free versions are available.

The night is still young; head over to the Marriott Theatre for a musical or the Genesee Theatre for a concert, Broadway show or comedian act. There is no driving to downtown Chicago and it's all very affordable entertainment!

Leave the job, the house, the kids and all that behind for a some quality girlfriend time! Can you hear the cheers??

Day Two - Start in quaint Volo at a pure shopper's paradise, Volo Antique Village. Three malls and 30-acres dedicated to antiques, collectibles, home furnishings and gifts.

Charming Long Grove Historic Village offers a lovely high tea at High Tea With Gerri. Take some time to explore this delightful village with its unique shops and galleries.

The late afternoon brings cravings for something sweet - chocolate; the Long Grove Confectionery fills the bill. Residents may be partial but we think it's the finest chocolate in the area and a great place to shop for gifts for the ones you left behind (for this trip...).

A stop at the nearby Lynfred Winery's Wheeling store is a must. Illinois' oldest winery features many varieties and a group wine tasting will help find everyone's perfect blend to bring home.

The trip back to your hotel provides many wonderful Lake County restaurant choices - Chessie's, Dover Straits, El Puerto Mexican Restaurant (best margaritas in Lake County), Sullivan's Steakhouse, Mickey Finn's Brewery, The Shanty and more. Most offer private dining settings to give your group that VIP treatment.

Lake County has many other entertainment venues - the stars under the stars at Ravinia Festival, James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, shuttle to Potawatomi Bingo Casino and more. We can help you find the right nightlife for your group of gals that is convenient and reasonable.

As you all settle back into your hotel rooms, the girls will be Jayne Nordstrom, Group Tour Manager, Visit Lake Countycheering and thanking you for planning a getaway to chic, charming and chocolate, just north of Chicago. It's sure to become an annual event.

However you choose to piece together your tour, your knowledgeable Lake County coordinator Jayne Nordstrom will be happy to assist you.
