The gathering place in the heart of our community where people connect, converse, learn, listen, play and perform. Gorton Community Center is one of the only a few privately-funded community centers in the United States and serves as a unique partnership between community volunteers and the City of Lake Forest. Built in 1901, Gorton Community Center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and completed a renovation in 2015. The beautifully landscaped site is located just two blocks from historic Market Square and one block from the downtown Lake Forest Metra Station. The newly renovated John & Nancy Hughes Theater is a state-of-the-art, 309-seat, performing arts venue that has become the signature of Gorton Community Center. We host films, youth and adult live performances, presentations, storytelling, dance recitals, concerts, pageants, and much more. Gorton has been proud to enrich the lives of residents through cultural arts, education and charitable services. Gorton has eight different rooms for rent, plus two kitchens. We host parties, fundraisers, corporate meetings, classes, weddings and more in our charming facility. Contact us soon about your next event!
