Tempel Lipizzans 60th Anniversary Gala
Tempel Farms
Old Mill Creek, IL
Voice: 847.244.5330
2018 marks the 60th year since our original twenty horses were imported from Piber, Austria in 1958 thereby establishing the herd now known as the Tempel Lipizzans. Today, we are the largest, privately owned herd of Lipizzan horses in the world. Our goal is the same today as it was sixty years ago: to educate about the art of classical riding and promote the Lipizzan breed in the United States.

We will begin the evening with sparkling beverages in our stable courtyard so we may toast the foresight of our founders Tempel and Esther Smith, the commitment of the current ownership family to continue this mission and the horses that have inspired generations here and abroad. Then we will move to the arena for a special Diamond Anniversary Performance of the Tempel Lipizzans. Following the performance we will gather for food, refreshments, music at the stallion stables. Come celebrate this momentous year with us by attending our Gala Celebration on July 21, 2018. See site for more information and tickets.

Voice: 847.266.5000
The Gypsy Kings are a group of flamenco, salsa and pop musicians from Arles and Montpellier in the south of France, who perform in Andalusian Spanish. Although group members were born in France, their parents were mostly gitanos, Berber-Moroccan and Spanish gypsies who fled Catalonia during the 1930s Spanish Civil War.

Park88 is the musical marriage of award-winning, gritty-voiced piano player Rich Wyman and singer-songwriter-storyteller Lisa Needham. The duo’s musical harmonizing began early in their relationship. After hearing the couple sing for the first time, Wyman’s mother pulled him aside and said “You’re going to marry her—I can hear it when you sing; your souls are intertwined.” They’ve been making music together ever since.

***Due to unforeseen circumstances, this event has been canceled.***

Comedian/impressionist Roger Kabler channels the spirit of Robin Williams to become the beloved comedy legend on stage. It's not just an impersonation but a stunning transformation – like Hal Holbrook as Mark Twain. After years of study, he has the look, voice and crazy antics down pat. You'll feel like you're watching Robin Williams perform right before your eyes!

The former Zima spokesman and Carol Burnett cast member is known for his other spot-on impressions, including Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and TV Detective Columbo.

Taking the stage beforehand is popular comedian Marc Price, who played Skippy on the '80s sitcom Family Ties. The Los Angeles Times calls him "refreshingly bright" while The Boston Globe says he's "wickedly funny."

Opening this incredible evening is award-winning comic Mike Bova, a hilarious funnyman in his own right.

Voice: 800.729.7244
Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox takes current and classic pop hits and transforms them into brilliant retro masterpieces. They perform the biggest hits by the likes of Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Lorde, Aerosmith and Radiohead and do the impossible: create versions that are better than the originals. This can only be done with world-class performers and arrangements true to their era.

You'll have a smile on your face as they turn Maroon 5's Maps into a vintage soul song, Macklemore's Thrift Shop into a Roaring Twenties jazz number and Hanson's MMMbop into a '50s doo-wop. It's quite remarkable.

But hurry, with over 3 million YouTube subscribers and 11 sold-out shows already this year, tickets will go fast.

A brief history: Opening as a small cabaret theatre in 1959, The Second City is now considered one of the most influential and prolific comedy theatres in the the world. With its roots in the improvisational games of Viola Spolin, The Second City developed an entirely unique way of creating and performing comedy. Founded by Spolin’s son, Paul Sills, along with Howard Alk and Bernie Sahlins, The Second City was experimental and unconventional in its approach to both theatre and comedy. At a time when mother-in-law jokes were more the fashion, The Second City railed against the conformist culture with scenes that spoke to a younger generation. The Broadway success of Mike Nichols and Elaine May – members of The Second City’s predecessor, The Compass Players – put attention on the fledgling company. Soon, alumni of The Second City – such as Alan Arkin, Barbara Harris, Robert Klein, David Steinberg and Fred Willard – began to cement the theater’s reputation for developing the finest comedic voices of each and every generation. With the debut of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, populated by Second City Alums John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and Gilda Radner, the theatre became internationally known for its ever increasing roster of comedy superstars.

Voice: 800.729.7244
When stand-up comedian Pablo Francisco takes the stage, fans are treated to a bubbling mash-up of celebrity impressions, hilarious parodies and clever insights, all delivered with breathless precision. His impersonation of that "voice-over guy" who starts off every action movie trailer with, "In a world where…" is priceless. And the crazy scenarios he creates, complete with unpredictable celebrity voices and sound effects, is just plain hysterical. With his rapid-fire delivery, you'll be laughing until it hurts – but in a good way. A night of great comedy plus firmer abs…does it get any better than that?

Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Sibylle Szaggars Redford is a German born Multimedia Environmental Artist. She has dedicated her life’s work to creating art informed by her spiritual consciousness of our connection to life, the land, and the world by raising awareness of our environmental unsound practices. Redford’s inspirations stem from nature, ancient cultures such as the Hopi, the Moroccan, or as in her most recent work the monsoon rains in the New Mexican High Desert.

She has exhibited her work throughout England, Germany, Italy, Monaco, France, Peru, Japan, Singapore, and the United States, and often collaborates with various musicians and choreographers. Her large oil painting series “Shape of Color” was her first collaboration with the world-renowned cellist Nina Kotova which was presented during the International Classical Music Festival in Cortona, Italy and later in Singapore of 2008.

In the summer of 2010, Szaggars-Redford began creating her “Rainfall” series, inviting rain showers to become a major instigator and her collaborator with Nature. In this series Redford provides the paper with her abstract watercolor pigment compositions – she then waits for the monsoon rain in the New Mexican High Desert and places her work in these showers.

Szaggars-Redford's pieces will be on display at Brushwood Center from May 21st to July 15th.

As Winter begins to wane, Volo Bog clings tightly to the cold. Layers of peat act as insulation against the thaw, clinging to winter just a little longer. Dormant winter shrubs and deciduous tamarack conifers await a warming of their roots to begin again their active life. While we may be ready for signs of spring, Volo Bog is still offering signs of winter activity. Deer tracks, rabbit scat & the meandering footprints of raccoons all reveal activity in Volo Bog. Peeking through the snow, carnivorous pitcher plants begin to show signs of greening with the lengthing days. Join a guided tour of this fascinating ecosystem - Illinois' only remaining open-water quaking bog - a National Natural Landmark! These public bog tours are open to individuals, families and small groups without reservations, however, groups of 10 or more are asked to please phone 815-344-1294 for special arrangements. Our Neighborhood is a place where children ages 1-6 can practice various roles in a community, challenging themselves to explore, imagine and create, exercising both mind and body. They may even enter the Neighborhood's "backyard" where they can climb, crawl, slide and be busy bodies in a safe environment! We have designed our Children's Neighborhood Museum specifically for children 1-6 years old.
