Guitarist Bobby Broom is also a longtime member of the Jazz Mentors in addition to being a frequent collaborator with Sonny Rollins. The ensemble also includes trumpeter Pharez Whitted, whose gigs have included the 1988 Presidential Inauguration and The Arsenio Hall Show; bassist Dennis Carroll, also a longtime member of the Chicago Jazz Orchestra; trombonist Audrey Morrison, a former member of Clark Terry’s big band; and Latin percussionist Jean-Christophe Leroy, who has played with Miami Sound Machine and in the pit for On Your Feet!, the Broadway musical based on the lives of Emilio and Gloria Estefan.

Wind Sync
Ravinia
200 Ravinia Park Road
Highland Park, IL 60035
Voice: 847.266.5000
Winners of the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the wind quintet WindSync has been hailed by the Houston Chronicle as “revolutionary” for their dramatic, original interpretations of classical masterpieces and contemporary music. They play exclusively from memory, a necessity given the elements of staging and choreography woven into their performances— in Ravel’s Bolero, for instance, the unmistakable staccato beat of the snare is driven by each member in turn as the others lead and engage in the sultry Spanish dance. This creative vision won WindSync the Adventurous Artist Prize from the Concert Artists Guild, in addition to several performance prizes and the top prize of its Victor Elmaleh International Competition, which led the Texas-based group to make its New York debut at Carnegie Hall soon after, and now the quintet will make its Chicago debut at Ravinia.

After pulling off a series of terrorist attacks throughout Paris, a group of teens and twenty-somethings hide out overnight in an upscale department store. Inside they are gradually beset by the forces of consumerism, ghosts and their own consciences. Equal parts 'Dawn of the Dead,' 'Zero Dark Thirty' and 'The Breakfast Club,' this sumptuous provocation was controversial in France. As its director was writing the script in 2015, the Charlie Hebdo massacre occurred, and the film was released soon after the Bataclan attack. '‘Nocturama' is at once damnable and debonair. It seduces as it repels,” wrote The New Yorker.

Fourteen-year-old Emperor Marcus the Third is nervous to take the throne. Deciding that he can only gain confidence by dressing in the finest attire, Marcus commands his Royal Clothesmaker to fashion him in the most royal wardrobe. Taking advantage of Marcus' uncertainty and immaturity, a Swindler promises to make magic clothes that are "invisible to fools, liars, and anyone you should ignore," for a large and hefty price. Only Arno, the simple-hearted mop boy, can help Marcus out of this royal mess and teach him an important lesson about outward appearance.

Grand Funk Railroad
Genesee Theatre
203 N. Genesee Street
Waukegan, IL 60085
Voice: 800.982.2787
In the early '70s, Grand Funk Railroad barreled onto the rock scene like a runaway train, selling out stadiums and collecting hit records along the way. In just seven years, they became the first American band to score 10 consecutive platinum albums. Always full of energy and often shirtless, they had a muscular sound that featured powerful vocals, bone-rattling bass lines, in-your-face guitar riffs and thunderous drumming. It was loud, heavy and full of soul. After nearly 5 decades, these guys still put on an epic show – but this time, with their shirts on.

Special guest Rick Derringer and his band kick off the show, performing his hits with the McCoys, Johnny and Edgar Winter, as well as his own band. This amazing rock legend has played guitar on a gazillion albums – from Alice Cooper to Air Supply

Voice: 815-344-1294
As Winter begins to wane, Volo Bog clings tightly to the cold. Layers of peat act as insulation against the thaw, clinging to winter just a little longer. Dormant winter shrubs and deciduous tamarack conifers await a warming of their roots to begin again their active life. While we may be ready for signs of spring, Volo Bog is still offering signs of winter activity. Deer tracks, rabbit scat & the meandering footprints of raccoons all reveal activity in Volo Bog. Peeking through the snow, carnivorous pitcher plants begin to show signs of greening with the lengthing days. Join a guided tour of this fascinating ecosystem - Illinois' only remaining open-water quaking bog - a National Natural Landmark! These public bog tours are open to individuals, families and small groups without reservations, however, groups of 10 or more are asked to please phone 815-344-1294 for special arrangements. Tours are about one hour.

Imagine a tot-sized replica of a town built especially for kids or a place where they can drive a car to the grocery store, gas up at the local gas station, be a star on stage or a pizza stand owner! Our Neighborhood is a place where children ages 1-6 can practice various roles in a community, challenging themselves to explore, imagine and create, exercising both mind and body. They may even enter the Neighborhood's "backyard" where they can climb, crawl, slide and be busy bodies in a safe environment! We have designed our Children's Neighborhood Museum specifically for children 1-6 years old.
