Let the ride take you...

Three Lake County venues so close together form an easily planned tour full of great food and drink along with shopping of course!

Start your day at Lambs Farm where they've been assisting the developmentally disabled for over 50 years. Staff will greet your group at the new Visitor Center to explain their mission and how your visit will help keep Lambs in the business of empowering others. Everyone can then explore the nearby shops where many of the residents work. At the Dogwood Pet Shop and Boutique, even guests without pets love to look at the interior of the original barn. The Cedar Chest Thrift Shop is a thrill for bargain hunters as donations pour in every day. And the Sugar Maple Country Store features Lambs' famous butter cookies, jams & jellies, sauces, mouth-watering confections and gift items. Your group lunch is at the Magnolia Cafe and Bakery which features locally prepared foods and bakery items.

The next stop is North Shore Distillery. We love the story of this young entrepreneurial couple who decided to open Illinois' first craft distillery since Prohibition right in our backyard. Your group will get a tour of the production room and meet the still - Ethel. Samples of their drink recipes infused with locally grown ingredients are sure to be a hit. NSD's varieties of gin, vodka and their artisan collection are available for purchase and they will supply you with drink recipes as well.

Now your group will be ready for another local product - popcorn. The Popcorn Factory was started by a Lake Forest business woman over 30 years ago and is now part of the 1-800-FLOWERS Company. This "stop and shop" opportunity offers lots of samples of TPF's specialty flavors including the "hands-down" favorites - butter, cheese and caramel. The store carries fantastic clearance items and seasonal favorites plus the tins of popcorn that made them famous.

Not ready to go home? No problem, depending on which direction you are headed, we can offer lots of other options. Sweet Pete's Candy offers wonderful candymaking classes ranging from lollipops, candy canes, truffles and chocolate bars. Jelly Belly brand jelly beans, made by Goelitz Confectionery Co. for 100 years in North Chicago, can be sampled and purchased at the Visitor Center, just north of us. Or south is the Long Grove Confectionery Company which offers chocolate factory tours in the morning though the store is available all day long.
