1. Six Flags Great America's Holiday in the Park

Six Flags Great America kicks off the holiday season with the magical return of Holiday in the Park. The thrill capital of the Midwest decks the halls in a dazzling display of lights, sights, and sounds. Holiday in the Park offers an entirely new and unique holiday celebration experience unlike anything seen before. The park transforms into a winter wonderland featuring millions of dazzling lights, a beautiful Christmas tree (5 p.m. lighting every night), meet-and-greets with Mr. and Mrs. Claus and more. Relish in festive entertainment which includes holiday shows, themed attractions and of course, plenty of thrilling roller coasters. Stay warm around the fire and feed your sweet tooth in the chilly weather by visiting one the s’more stations located around the park.  The holiday extravaganza runs select days through December 31.

2. Lightscape at Chicago Botanic Garden

Meander through the illuminated world of wonder at Chicago Botanic Garden’s Lightscape. Making its way across the pond from London, Lightscape makes its American debut at the Glencoe garden this weekend. The Glencoe sanctuary comes to life with festive sounds and a plethora of colors glowing in the night sky. Stroll through a tunnel of light displays, roast marshmallows around a fire and experience more breathtaking sights at this one-of-a-kind experience open on select days through January 5.

3. Vintage Holidays in Historic Downtown Long Grove

“Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring-ting tingling too. It’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together” at Long Grove’s Vintage Holidays. Experience the charming village’s holiday cheer with a variety of specialty shops and eateries as you enjoy the weekend festivities which include horse-drawn sleigh rides, carolers, holiday lights and a visit from Santa Claus. Old Kris Kringle will be available to take photos with the children. The holiday tradition begins this weekend and runs through December 23.

“The sun will come out tomorrow, so you gotta hang on ‘til tomorrow, come what may.” Experience the heart-warming tale of “Annie” at the Citadel Theatre. Take a musical adventure that follows little orphan Annie who is determined to locate her birth parents. The Lake Forest lead has to deal with the cruel orphanage caregiver Miss Hannigan. Oliver Warbucks, a billionaire adopts Annie to enhance is public image. View the shenanigans that Annie and “Daddy” Warbucks get into and you can “bet your bottom dollar” that it will put a smile on everyone’s face.  This family-friendly show runs on select days through December 22.

5. Santa's Rock'n'Lights at the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center

The lights are glowing and the music is rocking over at the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center. The Santa’s Rock ‘N’ Lights light exhibit returns to the Grayslake area. Load the family into the car and groove your way into the holiday season with this holiday lights display. This animated display has over 100,000 lights synced to music, creating a unique light show experience. The lights get turned on this Friday for opening weekend and runs through New Year’s Eve.

6. Wilmot Mountain Opening Weekend

Embrace the thrills and chills the colder weather brings as Vail Resorts’ Wilmot Mountain opens for the season. Lace up your boots, grab your board, skis or tube and hit the slopes. Friday’s opening day activities include the banner break, a commemorative pin giveaway, live music on the patio, a photo booth and much more. Wilmot Mountain is open throughout the entire winter season.
