Experience a new take on Zion's renowned Nostalgia Day Festival Cruise In, support local artists, or spend the day with the family and everyone's favorite Disney Princesses!

As the sun shines the stallions trot at The Tempel Lipizzan's first Summer Spotlight Performance of 2021. This stallion show will run through September on select Saturdays and Sundays.

Here’s this weekend’s edition of the top five things to do in Lake County, June 18-20.

1. ArtWauk, Under The Streetlamp at Genesee Theatre and the 2021 Juneteenth Celebration in Waukegan

Discover new art, jam to electrifying music and celebrate Juneteenth in Waukegan. Friday night’s show stopping performance by Under the Streetlamp at the Genesee Street Cabaret will keep you on your feet all night long! Rock N’ Roll and Jump N’ Jive with four former cast members from the Tony Award-winning musical “Jersey Boys.” The show’s VIP package includes free parking, premium seating, a pre-show party and two complimentary drinks. Tickets can be purchased at GeneseeTheatre.com.

The ArtWauk event in Waukegan is a monthly exploration of local art down Genesee Street. The art of various mediums on display is concocted by locals and designers outside of the land of lakes. Stroll through Waukegan’s newest gallery, Gallery 2109 inside the Belvidere Discount Mall. Head into the darkroom for jonrev Projects’ June exhibit at Karcher 405 Gallery, and visit the month’s solo exhibition, “AMBASSADORS” by artist Luke McFadden at Artpie Studio. ArtPark will be reopening for this month’s ArtWauk featuring over 10 artists and their paintings, jewelry and other craft creations, as well as a jazz combo performance consisting of Waukegan High School alumni. Take in everything Waukegan Main Street has to offer with free admission and full access to a variety of galleries, eateries, shops and more.

Saturday’s 2021 Juneteenth Celebration begins at the England Manor Underground Railroad Museum and journeys by bus to several sites and locations that are important to the black experience in the City of Progress including the Waukegan Public Library, Haines Museum, Dandelion Gallery, Foss Park, Fuller Center and more. Register for the commemorative event at WaukeganIL.gov.

2. Grayslake Arts Festival Wine Walk

Appreciate local art one glass at a time at the Grayslake Arts Festival and Wine Tasting. Venture to downtown Grayslake this weekend for rich vino and creative art. All finely crafted art from over 30 local artists of various mediums including ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, painting and sculpture will be available for purchase. All adult art enthusiasts are invited to sip an assortment of wines offered at the festival. The Grayslake Chamber of Commerce event also includes a specialty food truck, entertainment provided by local band Slam Funk and performances by studio members of Dance Connections of the village’s downtown. Tickets for the wine tasting include a specialty glass and four tastings.

3. Nostalgia Days Friday Night Cruise In

Take a trip to Zion for one of the city’s marquee events, the Nostalgia Days Friday Night Cruise. While this year the full-scale Nostalgia Days Festival was canceled due to taking precautions with COVID-19, several historic cars will still be cruising downtown on Friday night to keep the tradition alive. From muscle cars to vintage favorites, spectators will have the opportunity to gaze at the beauty of the venerable vehicles in downtown Zion. 

Friday, June 18; 3 - 11 p.m. Free admission. Downtown Zion, Sheridan Road, Zion. 

4. Fairytale Festival in Historic Downtown Long Grove

All you need is faith, trust and pixie dust at this weekend’s Fairytale Festival in Historic Downtown Long Grove. Step into a kingdom full of magic, princesses, singing and dancing, group games, costumes and smiles in the Lake County wonderland. 5. The Tempel Lipizzans Summer Spotlight Performance

It’s time to ride at The Tempel Lipizzans Summer Spotlight Performance. These gifted stallions will perform in a four-segment exhibition of classical riding at the Old Mill Creek farm. The program includes a tribute to the Olympic sport of equestrian showcasing dressage, the maneuvers of Middle Ages battle techniques, a high level of communication and elegance between trainer and horse and the height of classical dressage, the Quadrille. Experience the  harmony, art and elegance at the stallion ballet. Tickets can be purchased at TempelFarms.com.
