Take an adventure back in time at Volo Museum's Jurassic Gardens. They have animatronic dinosaurs and a fossil pit where kids can dig up unique "artifacts" and "fossils."

Delectable food, carnival rides, jamming music and pride in the community are on display at Lion’s Club Alpine Fest in Lake Zurich. The three-day celebration is highlighted by carnival rides, a beer garden, live entertainment, food for purchase, family-friendly activities, the Fire Fighters Water Fight and more. The festival has been a mainstay in the community since it began in 1942. Alpine Fest raises funds for various charitable causes. Live music fills the air from the minute the gates open till the last tune is played. Thirty local acts grace the stage, like Keene, The Petries, Acme, Tom Cahill, Vladi May, Roger Lutz and more. Wander the Hundred Acre Wood through a melodious presentation of English author A. A. Milne’s “Winnie-the-Pooh.” The Citadel Theatre production stages five showings at the Melody Farm Nature Preserve inside the Lake Forest Open Lands. This children’s musical score is composed by local musician Mark Adamczyk. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs, fold up a blanket, pack a picnic basket and find a spot on the lawn as the presentation is outdoors. Winnie the Pooh was initially introduced in Milne’s children’s verse book “When We Were Very Young” in 1924 with illustrator E.H. Shepherd. Throughout the years, numerous books, shows and movie adaptions were created showcasing the stuffed teddy bear and his honey-gathering escapades with his friends. Get the family together and load up the car with snacks, lawn chairs and blankets for a free concert in the Community Garden Green in the Village of Fox Lake. This Friday’s show features the musical stylings of the Libertyville House Band, a youth group from the School of Rock that plays various cover songs. Bring the family for a snack, get a wrap with a coworker or grab a spot of shady grass and take in the sights while you eat lunch. Boundless Adventures is an outdoor experience for trekkers of all ages featuring ziplines, tree climbing, rope swinging, axe throwing, obstacle courses and wide-open spaces. Visitors of this facility just north of the Lake County border can choose from nine courses with varying degrees of difficulty. There are four different course types: exploration, motivation, strength and conqueror skill levels. Their various obstacle courses make the alfresco facility an adventurous destination for scout groups, birthday parties, corporate team building, birthdays and youth camps. This year, Boundless Adventures unveiled axe-throwing lanes allowing people ages 13 and older to partake in the latest trending social activity. They host summer camps and neon glow nights on select dates through the fall. Kids ages six and under are not allowed to participate.
