1. Lake County Libation Trail

Whether you’re partaking from home or inside the establishments on the Lake County Libation Trail, get ready for a weekend full of tasty suds and drafts. The Lake County Libation Trail consists of over 20 stops of delectable craft cocktails, unique beer and various wine choices. With the transition to Illinois’ tier 1 mitigation of the public health crisis, you can enjoy libations from our makers via indoor, alfresco or or take a beer or four to-go for individuals ages 21 and older. 2. Wildlife Discovery Center Outdoor Trail Reopens
This Wildlife Discovery Center is a hub for learning more about wildlife conservation, field biology and ecology. Bundle up with the family and head out to the outdoor exhibition trail at the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest. Enjoy a close up experience with over 200 animals including bobcats, raptors, a plethora of reptiles, a bald eagle, a sloth and more. If you want to stay home and don’t want to venture outside on this snowy weekend, the Lake Forest animal habitat also offers various different virtual events and experiences on their website.

3. Marcus Theater at Gurnee Mills Reopens

Start the popcorn machine and grab some candy, Marcus Theaters at Gurnee Mills reopens this weekend as Lake County achieves the new mitigations in the COVID-19 numbers. Check out all of the latest releases including “The Little Things,” “Wonder Woman 1984,” “The Croods: A New Age,” “Smallfoot” and other cinematic releases. The movie theater will be enforcing social distancing and will be practicing thorough cleaning protocols. Marcus Theater asks that each patron orders movie tickets through the app. Food and beverage offerings will be available. Head to the Gurnee Mills theater with your family or your partner and take yourself out on a well-deserved movie date this weekend.

4. LVVA Ice Fishing Tournament

Calling all ice fishers! It’s time to head to Bang’s Lake in Wauconda for the LVVA Ice Fishing Tournament, virtual style. Each participant must download the FishDonkey app and upload a photo of each fish caught on Bang’s Lake. All entrants must have a valid fishing license. The winners of this catch and release contest will be judged on size and fish species categories like Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Crappie, Bluegill and Perch. The bigger the better! There are several prize categories for the winners. Proceeds for this year’s derby go to Veteran’s Path To Hope Outdoors, formerly TLS Veterans Outdoors of McHenry, Illinois. The TLS Veterans Outdoors platform supports outdoor activities for veterans as a form of alternative therapy and a release experience. The contest is highlighted by an array of angler-themed prizes, and winning participants can receive up to $500 in the raffle.

5. Solar Lit Trails by the LCFPD
Bundle up and take an evening hike at Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville on a solar lit trail. Whether you are hiking, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, this trail will be perfect for winter sports after this week of snow. Old School Forest Preserve offers a 1.3-mile trail as well as a 1.65 mile hilly section of the Millenium Trail. The illuminated trails will remain open to the public until 9 p.m. Mountain bike and equestrian traffic is not permitted, however hikers can bring their leashed canines for a stroll. The trail will be lit through March 14.
