1. "It's A Wonderful Life: A Radio Play" Presented By Improv Playhouse in Libertyville

Improv Playhouse Theater in downtown Libertyville brings to life their interpretation of the beloved 1946 film “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play.” This rendition of the iconic movie directed by Frank Capra is a radio play performed live onstage by the talented group of thespians. The holiday feature follows protagonist George Bailey, who puts his big dreams on hold during the Great Depression as he takes over his father’s business who abruptly passes away. Bailey faces many adversities and makes strategic maneuvers that essentially saves his hometown of Bedford Falls. Down on his luck, frustrated with life and questioning his own existence, Bailey attempts suicide but is saved by a guardian angel named Clarence who shows a world without the story’s main character. 2. "A Christmas Carol" at PM&L Theatre in Antioch

For its fourth decade, the PM&L Theatre in Antioch will be presenting the 1843 classic Charles Dickens novel, “A Christmas Carol.” In this version, adapted by the late PM&L director Lou Jones, spectators from all generations will be treated to this story of reluctance, regret and redemption. The story follows British banker Ebenezer Scrooge, a crotchety old man who has forgotten his own history that has made him who he was. The Dickens character is visited by his deceased business partner and confidant Jacob Marley as well as three other spirits to transform Scrooge into a kinder gentler man. 3. Christmas Luminary Hike at Quentin Road Baptist Church in Lake Zurich

It’s a walk that is inspired by the First Noel. The Christmas Luminary Hike at Quentin Road Baptist Church is this weekend. Navigate your way through “Bethlehem, Lake Zurich” as you encounter shepherds, angels and the three magi as you hear the story of Christmas. The grounds are highlighted by over 2,000 lights. The half-mile walking trail allows provides an experience of a live nativity scene, Christmas music and numerous photo opportunities while you take the journey at your own pace. Stay warm as the Lake Zurich church provides free hot chocolate and indoor warming stations. Tickets are limited to time slots for social distancing purposes. Tickets are $8 per person while children ages five and under receive free entry. Advance tickets can be purchased at QuentinRoad.org. The Saturday installment of the event is sold out.

4. Kiss Me, Kate at Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire

Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire November production combines the witty humor of two brilliant writers: Cole Porter and William Shakespeare. “Kiss Me, Kate” continues it’s run this weekend with romance, comedy and a story involving two ex-lovers putting on a musical production of Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew.” The musical was one of Cole Porter’s greatest success, winning his first Tony Awards for “Best Musical” and “Best Original Score.” Musical numbers include “Another Op’nin, Another Show,” “So in Love,” “Wunderbar,” “Too Darn Hot,” “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” and other classic showstoppers. The Lincolnshire Marriott Resort production runs through January 16 and tickets start at $50.

5. Make Your Own Glass Ornaments/Icicles at Peter Patterson Glassworks in Mundelein

Creating a holiday gift from scratch is a present that is truly from the heart. Visit Peter Patterson Glassworks in Mundelein for its open house event. Visitors can produce some new holiday flair for that special someone in their life by making an ornament or icicle at this Mundelein facility. Choose from flat or twisted ornament styles or a window sparkler, not to mention your choice of colors. Everything in the gallery will be marked at the sale price for the holidays, and there is a limit of one person per ornament. Glassblowers can take advantage of the Mundelein maker’s facility as it hosts another open house December 18 and 19 too. Reservations are encouraged and interested parties should call 847-949-0013. All visitors must wear facemasks.
