1. Gurnee Days in Viking Park

Gurnee Days brings community celebration, fun activities, delicious food and a sense of belonging to Viking Park. The 49th installment of this staple festival kicks off Saturday with the 5K,10K and two-mile walk/run at the Hunt Club Trail System. The Gurnee Days Golf Outing at Heather Ridge also occurs in the morning. Saturday also is highlighted by open houses for the village’s police and fire departments, a community art show, the Exchange Club Rib Fest and Beer Garden, various eating contests, myriad kid activities, four live bands including headliner Modern Day Romeos, a tour of the eldest facility in Gurnee; the Mother Rudd House and more. The evening concludes with fireworks at 9 p.m. Visitors can delight in Sunday’s schedule like the car and motorcycle show, food booths, the community art show, the Gurnee Days Parade, a petting zoo and pony rides, more interactive activities for the youngsters and more. The annual celebration concludes with the Police and Fire Department’s “Battle of the Badges” softball game at 2 p.m. Visitors can park and walk to the festival from Viking Middle School, Warren High School O’Plaine Campus and the Gurnee Community Church. 2. First Friday, Adler Center's Festival of the Arts and MainSweet Dessert Walk in Libertyville

Downtown Libertyville is buzzing with activity every day this weekend on Milwaukee Avenue. Shop, eat and drink, up and down Milwaukee Avenue at First Friday on MainStreet Libertyville. This experience happens on the first Friday of every month through December and offers residents the opportunity shop local and support community businesses. Friday is also highlighted by Lunch in the Park. This midday meal features multiple fare vendors and live music by local musician Pie Eyed Pete. The Adler Arts Center and the GLMV Chamber of Commerce host their 41st annual Festival of the Arts at Cook Park on both Saturday and Sunday. This juried art festival has an emphasis on visual arts highlighted by the work of 49 participating creators. Local musicians will grace the stage during the two-day art fest including Sneezy, Joyce Renee Walker, Moon Money and more. The Libertyville festivities provide local eats and drinks for purchase from Main Street Social, Lake County Libation Trail partner Mickey Finn’s Brewery and more. Running alongside the art party is the MainSweet Libertyville Dessert Walk on Saturday. Visitors stroll a three-block area of downtown Libertyville to sample tasting size portions of sweets, treats and desserts from participating Main Street businesses including, The Joyful Gourmet, Sweet Home Gelato and more. 3. Long Grove Vintage Days

Shoppers can purchase handmade, reclaimed, upcycled, antique and other classic wares at the Long Grove Vintage Days. The free admission summer shopping experience is an outdoor, open-air street market in Historic Downtown Long Grove featuring over 30 vendors. Peruse the market or at one of the independent shops in the Lake County village. To complement this festival’s classic feel, the Long Grove Historical Society hosts a Penny Carnival geared towards children and run by older kids. The Penny Carnival also provides live entertainment by an 18th-century, Appalachian-styled choir with a fiddler. Long Grove Vintage Days also offers more live music including, local bands Ludy, Colin Cimmarusti, Anderlik, Roach and Church and more. The event has free parking in the village’s Metra train station lot. Use the Visitors Center address for GPS if coming from outside the area. For more information, visit LongGrove.org.

4. Harbor Days and Venetian Night at North Point Marina

Celebrate like it’s Mardi Gras and an Italian Christmas party at North Point Marina on Saturday. “Let the good times roll” during the day, as the Winthrop Harbor fest features Mardi Gras-themed food and drinks, a car show and family-friendly activities. In the evening, the shores of Lake Michigan will be aglow, mirroring the Christmas boating parade historically held in Venice, Italy. Many vessels will continue with the “Laissez Faire” theme donning Mardi Gras décor. Following the watercraft parade, the night closes with a fireworks display. Visitors ages 21 and older should pay a visit to Lake County Libation Trail partner Harbor Brewing Co. located along the marina.

5. Nine & Dine at Hickory Knoll Golf Course

Bring the clubs for a shotgun start coupled with international cuisine at the Hickory Knoll Golf Course’s Nine and Dine event. Twenty-four individuals swing for the best round at this competitive outing. Following the links, the Lake Villa golf course serves a Mexican-theme buffet on the terrace.
