Tempel Lipizzans is home to the largest privately-owned herd of Lipizzan stallions in the world. Saved during World War II by General George Patton, these stallions are internationally-renowned, having performed their horse ballet in several presidential inaugurations, celebrations for kings and queens, and countless visitors to Lake County. Their season runs late June through early September and offers Behind the Scenes tours called "How a Lipizzan Learns to Dance."
The Shanty gained popularity when owner, Dimitri Kallianis was featured on the Food Network's TV show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." The restaurant is a favorite for locals and travelers and Shanty Towne was recently build to accommodate the group event .
A quick shopping stop at Gurnee Mills is a must before heading south to Lynfred Winery's Wheeling location. A wine tasting of their delicious reds, whites and sparkling wines offers a social time before the next stop or heading home.Or enjoy the bellissima patio at Pazzo di Vino in Highwood for a wine tasting. You’ll feel like you’re in another world and it’s not the wine either!
