One of the African American Museum at England Manor's many collections focuses on the "Great Migration" period from 1916-1970. During the Great Migration, millions of African Americans moved from Southern states to urban centers in the North, Midwest and West. The collection highlights the role of educational institutions like Howard University, established in 1867, pays tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen, the first Black military aviators during World War II, features Afro picks, symbols of cultural pride and natural hair acceptance and showcases the African American community's strength, creativity, and resilience.
