This program includes an ensemble of Ravinia Steans Music Institute’s Piano & Strings fellows giving the premiere of Untranslatable, a string quartet commissioned from James Lee III in recognition of Miriam Fried’s 30th and final season as Piano & Strings Program Director.
The five-movement work is inspired by music’s “universal language” ability to communicate feelings, emotions, ideas, and more across cultures in a way that words from other tongues can be challenging to express clearly and concisely in English.
